Rocket Engine Assembly & Integration Engineer
Full-Time
ABOUT ASTROBASE SPACE TECHNOLOGIES
Astrobase Space Technologies is an early-stage Bengaluru company building a two-stage orbital launch vehicle. Our engine is a LOX–methane full-flow staged-combustion engine. The Astrobase Propulsion team is looking for experienced and passionate professionals who can own the vehicle's stage fluid and propulsion systems from design to flight.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Translate P&IDs into integrated engine CAD; define all fluid, structural and instrumentation interfaces.
- Design flanged, threaded and welded interfaces: bolted-joint preload and torque-tension, cryogenic seals, weld-joint preparation and inspection access.
- Model the engine and route feed, purge, pressurisation and instrumentation lines and interconnections, supports and vibration.
- Create and maintain top-down CAD models of the integrated engine and sub-assemblies; run tolerance stack-ups.
- Write phase-wise assembly instructions and travellers with torque sequences, inspection points, cleanliness and FOD controls.
- Manage the drafting/CAD team: set modelling and drawing standards, check and release drawings.
- Own configuration management: part numbering, revision control, EBOM/MBOM, ECR/ECO change control, NCR and rework dispositions, as-built traceability.
- Specify assembly tooling, handling fixtures and engine-to-stand adapters.
- Support shop-floor builds, hot-fire campaigns and post-test activities.
BASIC QUALIFICATION
- B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Min. 5+ years in assembly and integration of propulsion hardware.
- Hands-on work experience with pump-fed engine cycles (gas-generator, staged-combustion, expander or electric-pump).
- Experience with cryogenic propulsion hardware (LOX, LCH4 or LH2).
- Advanced large-assembly CAD/PLM: Siemens NX/Teamcenter, CATIA/3DEXPERIENCE or Creo/Windchill.
- GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and release of production drawings.
PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Bolted-joint design to NASA-STD-5020; AN/MS flared fittings; metallic and spring-energised cryogenic seals.
- Weld design and callouts to AWS D17.1; orbital GTAW, EB welding and brazing.
- Oxygen-service cleaning and compatibility (ASTM G93, NASA-STD-6001, IEST-STD-CC1246).
- DFMA for machined, welded and L-PBF additive (e.g. Inconel 718) parts.
- Instrumentation-port integration (pressure, temperature, vibration) and mass-properties/CG tracking.
- First-article inspection and aerospace quality-system experience.
- Has led draughtsmen or a small design team
WHAT WE OFFER
- Salary: ₹24–36 LPA fixed CTC, variable pay based on experience and role fitment.
- Attractive early-stage stock options (ESOPs).
- Group health insurance: employee, spouse, children and parents.
- Insurance: term-life and personal-accident cover.
- Work environment: Challenging, stimulating, research-driven work solving rocket problems every day with a great team. We have a good time, and unlimited coffee.
