JOB PURPOSE:

Develop and drive the long-term Crop Strategy, especially focused on the seed business and new crop system expansion (DSR), working with key cross-functional stakeholders. Lead the respective Crop Communities in Region and Cluster to elevate customer insights from the ground, but also to share strategic insights.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct market analysis and derive likely scenarios of crop demand, supply (acreage by geography) and trade-flows by leveraging internal and external experts as well as digital tools
  • Macroeconomics and demographic changes (e.g., dietary changes, consumption demand) Climate and environmental changes (e.g., new pest and disease, resistance development)
  • Politics and social requirements and trends (e.g., government subsidies, sustainability goals) Regulatory and legal (e.g., food security law, biotech approvals)
  • Keep updated on key trends and potential evolvement of new crop varieties, cultivation method and new technology implications in each market segment and identify potential impacts on yield and production costs as well as key market needs change
  • Develop a forward-looking perspective on how value pools evolve across input materials, value chain steps, and geographies, with an emphasis on embedding sustainability and carbon-smart agriculture.
  • Translate all market insights into Bayer’s opportunities and risks for both existing & future business/solutions and define Bayer’s role in respective crop transformation with clear strategic objectives through regenerative and climate-smart systems.
  • Provide guidance and support to translate and cascade long-term strategy into actions at both regional and country cluster level
  • Provide inputs to asset team for project ideations, implementing our 5-year CP strategy
  • Provide potential partnership and business development opportunity to regional commercial committee
  • Share key strategic insights with CDHs and Cluster Crop Communities
  • Periodically review (overall crop strategy - every 3 years; strategic initiatives - every year) and make updates based on up-to-date market and strategic insights, trade, and sustainability trends.
  • Strategically position and drive Direct Acre adoption, accelerate water-saving commitments and the Carbon business expansion, utilizing Better LifeFarming and driving farmer reach goals
  • Review our production strategy and work with PS on seed cost reduction
  • Strategically assess Bayer’s position in Hybrid Rice Seeds, analyzing our right to win and defining future approach including partnerships/ M&A and others
  • Liase with rice authorities like ICAR/ IRRI/ SRP and other academic and commercial institutions dealing in rice, committed to sustainable and regenerative agriculture.
  • Conduct thorough assessment of the herbicide tolerant (HT) rice opportunity including leveraging existing partnerships and preparing for our Bayer proprietary HPPD technology.
WHO YOU ARE:
  • University degree, fluent in English
  • Sound knowledge of agribusiness with a good level of commercial and technical experience in the specified crop segment
  • Strong strategic mindset and courage to drive vision and purpose
  • Ability to structure and analyze significant data sets and driving insights from them to define the strategic pathway for the Crop segment
  • Understanding of external environment, including key competitors
  • Demonstrated customer centricity
  • Leading/influencing peers and senior stakeholders at the global and country level on business decisions
  • Learning agility, being able to adapt to the new requirements of the Company
  • Understanding of crop related political, economic, sciences & technologies and regulatory requirements
  • Managing and collaborating in a matrix organization requiring experience interfacing with global organization
