Job summary

Lam Research in Bengaluru seeks an experienced RF Engineer to design, validate, and troubleshoot RF delivery subsystems for its Etch and Deposition products. You will simulate, test, and analyze subsystems, collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process teams, and help productize high‑reliability assemblies.

The role requires deep RF/EM expertise, hands‑on testing, data analysis, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of RF experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years with a Master’s; or 3 years with a PhD.
• Expert-level RF and EM simulation experience with industry tools.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Experience with FMEA and structured problem solving.

Responsibilities

The impact you ll make

As an RF Engineer at Lam, you play a crucial role in designing, building, and troubleshooting cutting-edge radio frequency (RF) solutions for power delivery and plasma generation in our Etch and Deposition products. Your role involves designing and analyzing subsystems, conducting experimental tests, and conducting simulations and analyzing results to create reliable cutting-edge solutions.

In this role, you will directly contribute to the simulation, design, test, validation, and productization of process-critical assemblies and subsystems related to our Etch process modules.

What you ll do

• Acts as a Subject Matter Expert in the field of RF, high voltage designs, and EM modeling for the department.
• Acts as a resource and mentor for colleagues.
• Designs, develops, and modifies highly complex RF delivery subsystems and components.
• Works with multidisciplinary engineering design teams (Mechanical, Electrical, Process) team to spec, design, validate, custom and OEM RF system components.
• Contributes to research and development efforts for future products and technology by collecting and analyzing data to improve electrical system designs.
• Perform hands-on test and validation utilizing lab equipment to characterize the performance of the electrical/electro-mechanical systems.
• Prepare high-quality reports and technical presentations to clearly communicate design intent, analysis, and results to diverse audiences in design reviews.
• Leads cross-functional design teams and presents various stages of design reviews including conceptualization, design details, and test and validation data.
• Proposes, leads, and manages inter-department initiatives and makes contributions towards department business processes.

Who we re looking for

• Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor s degree; or 6 years and a Master s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience.
• Expert-level working experience with RF and EM Simulation Suites: Ansys Electronics Desktop, Maxwell, HFSS, Q3D, COMSOL, ,SIwave, ADS
• Understands tradeoffs between software suits, when to implement, and how to use each.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Outstanding analysis and trouble-shooting skills; experience with FMEA and structured problem solving and troubleshooting techniques and terminology.
• Ability to drive functional requirements and execute in a dynamic team environment.
• Expert-level working experience in electrical circuit design and development with Keysight ADS, SPICE, System modeling (e.g. SIMULink or similar)
• Experience with MATLAB, MathCAD, LabView, Python (or similar modern scripting language)
• Experience with schematic and PCB design tools; OrCAD, Cadence Allegro or similar
• Ability to code, develop additions to data solvers, as well as data post-processing

Preferred qualifications

• Semiconductor capital equipment or related industrial equipment industry experience.
• Appreciates learning and understanding challenges and limitations within other disciplines on system designs.
• Willingness to travel to international locations.
• Working knowledge of industry standards: SEMI, NFPA79, NEC, UL, EN, IEC, ETG, etc.
• Familiar with plasma physics and simulation tools like VizGlow and EMA3D.
• Experience with RF/uW generator/source, impedance matching network, transmission line, and antennas.
• Technical working experience: 100 KHz to 100 MHz, Watt to KiloWatt ranges, and high voltage DC delivery.
• Familiar with high voltage (>10 KV) and high current (>100 Arms) design rules; arcing, tracking, heat, and paracitic.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remote and fall into two categories - On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. On-site Flex you ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. Virtual Flex you ll work 1-2 days per week at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
