Job summary

Nasscom AI Hub in Bengaluru seeks a Responsible AI Lead to drive governance, policy, and practical adoption of responsible AI across India's tech ecosystem. The role blends policy, technology understanding, and stakeholder engagement to deliver playbooks, reports, and capacity-building programmes.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of relevant experience in AI policy, technology policy, responsible AI, digital governance, data governance, AI product/programme management, public policy, research, consulting, or technology ecosystem development.
  • Strong understanding of AI and emerging technologies, including machine learning, generative AI, foundation models, enterprise AI adoption, AI risks, and governance challenges.
  • Good knowledge of AI governance, digital policy, privacy, ethics, technology regulation, responsible innovation, and risk management.
  • Strong research, writing, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to simplify complex policy and technical issues for different audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Track AI policy and regulatory developments in India and globally.
  • Prepare policy briefs, consultation responses, concept notes, white papers, discussion papers, blogs, and briefing documents for government, industry, and ecosystem stakeholders.
  • Support Nasscom’s engagement with ministries, regulators, standards bodies, multilateral organisations, technology companies, startups, GCCs, SMEs, legal experts, academic institutions, and civil society organisations.
  • Develop practical guidance on responsible AI adoption covering fairness, transparency, privacy, accountability, safety, robustness, explainability, human oversight, risk management, model evaluation, and AI assurance.
  • Design and support roundtables, workshops, expert consultations, working groups, training programmes, and ecosystem discussions on AI governance and responsible AI implementation.
  • Help translate policy and governance principles into usable templates such as AI risk assessment formats, model cards, data governance checklists, deployment review templates, and responsible AI maturity assessment tools.
  • Support sector-specific Responsible AI work in healthcare, BFSI, education, public services, manufacturing, telecom, and enterprise AI adoption.

Job description

Nasscom AI is looking for a Responsible AI Lead to drive and support its work on responsible, trustworthy, and inclusive AI adoption across India’s technology ecosystem. The role will combine AI policy, technology understanding, governance, research, and stakeholder engagement.The candidate will work with industry leaders, startups, government stakeholders, academia, civil society, standards bodies, and global partners to develop practical Responsible AI frameworks, policy inputs, playbooks, reports, workshops, and capacity-building programmes. The role requires someone who can understand AI risks and opportunities and translate complex governance concepts into simple, actionable guidance for enterprises, startups, policymakers, and developers.

Lead Responsible AI initiatives under Nasscom Responsible AI Hub, including frameworks, toolkits, maturity models, sectoral guidance, research reports, and industry adoption playbooks.

  • Track and analyse AI policy and regulatory developments in India and globally, including AI governance frameworks, privacy regulations, the EU AI Act, OECD AI principles, UNESCO AI ethics recommendations, NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, and sector-specific AI regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

Master’s degree in Public Policy, Law, Technology Policy, AI or a related field.

  • 5–7 years of relevant experience in AI policy, technology policy, responsible AI, digital governance, data governance, AI product/programme management, public policy, research, consulting, or technology ecosystem development.
  • Strong understanding of AI and emerging technologies, including machine learning, generative AI, foundation models, enterprise AI adoption, AI risks, and governance challenges.
  • Good knowledge of AI governance, digital policy, privacy, ethics, technology regulation, responsible innovation, and risk management.
  • Strong research, writing, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to simplify complex policy and technical issues for different audiences.
Preferred Skills

Understanding of India’s AI ecosystem, IndiaAI Mission, digital public infrastructure, startup ecosystem, IT services, GCCs, and enterprise AI adoption.

  • Familiarity with global Responsible AI standards and frameworks such as ISO/IEC 42001, NIST AI Risk Management Framework, OECD AI Principles, UNESCO AI Ethics Recommendation, and the EU AI Act.
  • Exposure to AI risk assessment, model evaluation, AI assurance, privacy compliance, data governance, technology audit, or Responsible AI implementation.
  • Experience working with industry associations, think tanks, consulting firms, government bodies, technology companies, or research institutions will be an advantage.

The ideal candidate should bring strong analytical thinking, high ownership, excellent writing ability, attention to detail, and comfort in working across policy, technology, legal, and business teams. The person should be able to manage multiple deliverables, engage senior stakeholders, and bring a balanced approach that supports innovation while addressing risks related to bias, privacy, safety, misuse, accountability, and societal impact.
