Job description

Overview

Turing is looking for PhD-level researchers in mathematics to test the reasoning capabilities of large language models (LLMs). You’ll create math problems, analyze model responses, and identify gaps in logic or understanding to measure how well these models handle abstract thinking and structured problem-solving.

Responsibilities
  • Create math problems and review how the AI solves them.
  • Share insights on how well it understands complex reasoning and logical steps.
  • Identify gaps in logic or understanding and provide constructive feedback with examples.
  • Work independently with stable computer and internet access.
  • Respond in written form, suitable for remote collaboration.
  • Examples of tasks may include the following:
  • Find the number of permutations of 10 elements that consist only of exactly 3 disjoint cycles.
  • Determine how many distinct convex polyhedra can be formed using exactly 10 vertices such that all faces are triangles and the polyhedron has genus zero.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in or have completed a Ph.D. or Postdoctoral in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Able to provide clear, constructive feedback with examples.
  • Strong written communication, especially in remote settings.
  • Comfortable working independently.
  • Stable computer and internet access.

Note: This position is open only to candidates who have completed or are currently pursuing a Ph.D.; applications that do not meet this criterion will not be considered.

Time Commitment & Contract Details
  • Commitments Required: at least 4 hours per day and a minimum of 20 hours per week with 4 hours of overlap with PST. Options: 20 hrs/week, 30 hrs/week, or 40 hrs/week.
  • Engagement type: Contractor assignment/freelancer (no medical/paid leave).
  • Duration of contract: 1 month; expected start date next week.
Selection Process

Task-based assessment for shortlisted candidates, followed by a contract offer with defined timelines and workload.
