Indian Institute of Head and Neck Oncology (Indore Cancer Foundation Charitable Trust) seeks a radiation oncologist to provide comprehensive consultation, treatment planning and clinical management of cancer patients. The role involves evaluating patients, determining radiotherapy indications, and ensuring safe use of the Elekta Harmony Pro Linear Accelerator, with expertise in 3D-CRT, IMRT, VMAT and IGRT.

Qualifications

• MD/DNB in Radiation Oncology from a recognised institution.
• Valid registration with MP Medical Council.
• Experience in external beam radiotherapy and modern techniques.
• Hands-on LINAC-based radiotherapy experience.
• Knowledge of IMRT/VMAT/IGRT/3D-CRT preferred.
• Familiarity with Elekta Harmony platforms.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive radiation oncology consultation, treatment planning and clinical management of cancer patients.
• Evaluate patients and determine appropriate radiotherapy indications, intent and treatment protocols in coordination with the multidisciplinary oncology team.
• Take responsibility for the safe and effective clinical utilisation of the Elekta Harmony Pro Linear Accelerator.
• Prescribe and supervise external beam radiotherapy treatments, including 3D-CRT, IMRT, VMAT, IGRT and other clinically appropriate techniques.
• Review and approve treatment plans in coordination with Medical Physicists and Radiation Therapy Technologists.
• Ensure appropriate patient positioning, immobilisation, image verification and treatment delivery protocols.
• Perform regular on-treatment reviews (OTR) and monitor patients for treatment response, acute toxicities and complications.
• Manage radiation-related toxicities and coordinate supportive/palliative care wherever required.
• Participate in multidisciplinary tumour boards and contribute to treatment decisions involving surgery, medical oncology and supportive care.
• Ensure compliance with institutional radiation safety, quality assurance and clinical protocols, in coordination with the Medical Physics team and as per applicable regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient records, treatment prescriptions, clinical notes, consent documentation and follow-up records.
• Participate in development, review and implementation of radiotherapy SOPs, clinical protocols and quality-improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to clinical audits, research, academic activities, teaching and training of residents, nursing staff, radiation therapists and other healthcare professionals.
• Support the institute's academic programmes, cancer-awareness initiatives and community outreach activities whenever required.
• Participate in tumour-specific and multidisciplinary clinics, including head & neck, breast, thoracic, gastrointestinal, gynaecological and other cancers as per institutional requirements.
• Ensure appropriate patient counselling regarding treatment objectives, expected benefits, possible side effects and follow-up.
• Work closely with the Radiation Oncology, Medical Physics, Radiotherapy Technology and Supportive Care teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Contribute to the optimal utilisation, clinical development and continuous improvement of the Elekta Harmony Pro Linear Accelerator service.
• Adhere to all institutional policies relating to patient safety, infection prevention, ethics, documentation and quality accreditation.

Preferred candidate profile

• MD/DNB in Radiation Oncology / Radiotherapy from a recognised institution.
• Valid registration with the MP Medical Council.
• Appropriate experience in external beam radiotherapy and modern radiation treatment techniques.
• Hands-on clinical experience with LINAC-based radiotherapy.
• Experience in IMRT, VMAT, IGRT and 3D-CRT is preferred.
• Experience with Elekta LINAC platforms, particularly Elekta Harmony / Harmony Pro, will be an advantage.
• Good understanding of CT simulation, treatment planning, image-guided radiotherapy and radiation treatment verification.
• Ability to independently evaluate patients, prescribe radiotherapy and review/approve treatment plans.
• Exposure to multidisciplinary cancer care and tumour board discussions.
• Understanding of radiation safety, quality assurance and regulatory requirements related to radiotherapy.
• Good communication and counselling skills with a patient-centred approach, particularly for patients from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
• Interest in clinical research, teaching, academic activities and evidence-based oncology practice.
• Ability to work collaboratively with Medical Physicists, Radiation Therapists, Medical Oncologists, Surgical Oncologists and the Supportive Care Team.
