What You’ll Be Doing (position summary):

The Quality Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the testing activities within CIBC’s Core Banking and Payments Technology Quality Engineering team This role ensures that client needs are met with the highest quality standards by overseeing all aspects of the testing process, including the design, development, and maintenance of automated test scripts The incumbent coordinates end-to-end testing, drives continuous improvement, and ensures testing processes comply with organizational and regulatory requirements The role works closely with project managers, business analysts, developers, quality engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver high‑quality technology solutions

How You’ll Succeed (responsibilities):
Testing Expertise:
  • Design, manage, and execute end-to‑end test planning activities for various projects, ensuring alignment with project timelines and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain detailed test plans, schedules, and resource allocations.
  • Oversee Development, execution, and maintenance of automated/manual test cases.
  • Track, report, and manage defects throughout the testing lifecycle, ensuring prompt resolution.
  • Prepare and present regular status reports, test metrics, and risk assessments to project leadership.
  • Ensure all testing activities comply with organizational policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Automation Expertise:
  • Design and implement automation strategies, tools, and frameworks to enhance testing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Integrate automated testing scripts and strategies with DevOps tools.
Leadership Skills:
  • Coach and mentor testing team members in business domain, functional testing, automation, and non‑functional testing.
  • Ensure compliance with CIBC’s test methodologies and industry best practices.
  • Proactively identify potential issues throughout all test phases and suggest improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance testing processes, tools, and methodologies.
Project Coordination:
  • Coordinate internal and external testing teams to ensure timely completion of test phases.
  • Identify and communicate obstacles or risks that may impact project timelines or success.
  • Maintain open communication with stakeholders and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Ensure test deliverables are completed, approved, and aligned to project goals and budget.
People Management:
  • Set appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals’ roles support the achievement of the business unit’s priorities and CIBC’s overall goals.
  • Build team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training.
  • Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance, and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.
  • Create a positive work environment and be an effective role model by championing CIBC’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, standards, guidelines, are adhered to consistently so employees understand what to expect.
  • Hire the right people in the right jobs to align individual capabilities with job requirements and business unit goals.
CROSS‑FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
  • Collaborates with business stakeholders and technology partners to define and execute testing strategies.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for all testing‑related communications among project stakeholders.
  • Coordinates with Internal and External Technology and Business partners to ensure timely completion of testing phases and alignment with project objectives.
COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

AUTHORITIES/DECISION RIGHTS:
  • As a key contributor to the business unit, this job has the authority to recommend changes to business processes in order to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • As a manager of people, this job has the authority to assign tasks to employees within their span of control, select individuals for hire, assess individual performance, make employee compensation decisions, and take disciplinary measures up to and including termination.
JOB DIMENSIONS:
  • Directly coordinates testing activities across multiple lines of business.
  • Oversees testing deliverables for internal staff, other lines of business and external vendors.
  • Responsible for ensuring alignment of testing activities with project timelines, budgets, and overall business objectives.

3+ years of experience

Who You Are (skills/qualifications):
Must Have Skills:
  • Proven 3+ years of experience in a management role, and 5+ years in Automation, Test Coordination and/or equivalent technical roles.
  • Strong understanding of Testing Life Cycle, SDLC, and Defect Management processes.
  • Hands‑on experience with test automation tools (eg, Selenium, Robot Framework, Parasoft SOAtest, Postman, Rest Assured, Cucumber).
  • Working experience with Python, Java, and SQL databases.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and mentorship abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication skills, able to convey technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Collaborative approach, building trusted relationships with stakeholders.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging technologies and industry developments.
  • Strong investigative and analytical skills for solving complex problems.
  • Experience with test management tools (eg, JIRA, HP ALM).
Good to have Skills:
  • Ability to build and maintain automated testing scripts and integrate with DevOps tools.
  • Good working knowledge of QE processes and standards.
