Job summary

Citi in Chennai seeks an IT Quality Lead (AVP) to architect and scale test automation across UI, API, and mobile platforms. You will lead a team of QA engineers, drive coding standards, and integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to enable rapid, high-quality software delivery.

The role requires hands-on framework development, strong programming skills, and expertise with Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, and API testing tools.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software quality engineering.
• 5+ years hands-on in test automation framework development.
• Proficient in Java / Python / C# or JS/TS.
• Experience with Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or Appium.
• Experience in automated API testing (RestAssured, Postman, Karate).
• CI/CD concepts and tools (Jenkins, Git, Bitbucket, Tekton) and Docker/Kubernetes.
• Advanced SQL for data validation and backend testing.
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum, BDD/TDD practices.

Job description

The IT Quality Lead (AVP) is a senior technical leadership role responsible for designing, implementing, and scaling comprehensive test automation strategies and frameworks across our application ecosystem. This role combines hands‑on framework architecture with technical leadership, driving engineering excellence, and integrating automated testing into our CI/CD pipelines to support rapid, high-quality software delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Automation Strategy & Architecture: Design, build, and maintain scalable, robust, and reusable test automation frameworks (UI, API, and Mobile) from scratch.
• Technical Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of QA and automation engineers, establishing coding standards, conducting code reviews, and driving best practices in test engineering.
• CI/CD Integration: Collaborate with DevOps and Development teams to integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins/Tekton), establishing automated quality gates for continuous deployment.
• Test Planning & Execution: Define test automation roadmaps, estimate automation efforts, and collaborate with product owners to align testing with sprint goals in an Agile environment.
• Metrics & Reporting: Establish, track, and report on key quality and automation metrics (e.g., test coverage, execution pass rates, defect leakage) to senior stakeholders.
• Risk & Compliance: Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding assets by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

Qualifications:

• Experience: 8+ years of experience in software quality engineering, with at least 5 years of hands‑on experience in test automation framework development.
• Programming Languages: Strong proficiency in at least one object‑oriented programming language (e.g., Java, Python, C#) or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Automation Tools: Hands‑on expertise with industry‑standard automation tools such as Selenium WebDriver, Cypress, Playwright, or Appium.
• API Testing: Proven experience in automated API testing using RestAssured, Postman, or Karate.
• DevOps & Tools: Solid understanding of CI/CD concepts and tools (Jenkins, Git, Bitbucket, Tekton) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift).
• Database Skills: Strong proficiency in writing complex SQL queries for data validation and backend testing.
• Methodology: Deep understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and Behavior‑Driven Development (BDD) / Test‑Driven Development (TDD) practices.

Education:

• Bachelor’s/University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
