Job summary

PepsiCo is seeking an experienced EHS leader to drive the Greenfield Foods project from design through start-up, embedding EHS by design and contractor management. Post-commissioning, the role transitions to site EHS Manager to lead ongoing compliance, culture and continuous improvement.

The candidate will oversee EHS governance, risk controls, permits, and incident investigations across construction and operation, with a strong emphasis on safety culture and regulatory adherence.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of EHS experience in large-scale construction or greenfield projects.
• Engineering degree with recognized EHS qualification; NEBOSH preferred.
• Strong knowledge of construction safety, contractor management, risk assessment and PTW processes.
• Experience in hazardous energy, lifting, work at height, excavation and electrical safety.
• Proven ability to lead EHS compliance, audits and incident investigations.

Responsibilities

Job description

Overview

The role is a critical EHS leadership role for setting up the E2E Greenfield Foods project, providing EHS leadership across design, engineering, construction, commissioning and start-up, and later transitioning into the Site EHS Manager role for the live plant. The person will ensure the project is delivered safely and in compliance with PepsiCo EHS standards, GEHSMS, applicable legislation and FM Global requirements, while embedding EHS by Design, effective contractor management and critical risk controls throughout the project lifecycle. Following project completion, the role will lead site EHS performance, compliance, culture and continuous improvement.

This Greenfield will be first of its kind with huge complexities and scope – Manufacturing plant, ASRS with 6,500+ pallet positions, 20,000 MT long-term modern cold storage within the facility, solar installation & Wind power PPA, IGBC Green Building Gold certification and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD).

Responsibilities

Phase 1 – Construction Site | Project EHS Manager Accountabilities

• Establish and lead the EHS strategy and governance for the Greenfield project in alignment with PepsiCo EHS standards, GEHSMS and applicable legislation.

Drive EHS by Design across engineering, equipment selection and project execution, ensuring critical EHS risks are identified, assessed and effectively controlled at source.

• Lead Construction EHS Management, ensuring safe execution of civil, infrastructure, MEP, utilities, process and equipment installation activities in line with PepsiCo requirements.
• Lead Contractor EHS Management, including contractor qualification, onboarding, capability building, field verification, performance management and compliance.
• Ensure effective management of construction critical risks, including work at height, lifting, excavation, hot work, confined space, electrical safety and hazardous energy.
• Lead project fire protection, emergency preparedness and FM Global engagement, ensuring appropriate systems, design requirements and construction-phase emergency arrangements are established and maintained.
• Ensure compliance with applicable EHS statutory, environmental and regulatory requirements, including required permits, approvals and licenses.
• Lead EHS risk assessments, HAZID/HAZOP, MOC, incident investigations and corrective action management, driving sustainable risk reduction and prevention of recurrence.
• Partner with Engineering, Project Management, PMC, contractors, OEMs, FM Global and statutory agencies to ensure safe, compliant and timely project execution.
• Establish EHS systems, processes and capability required for commissioning, PSSR, start-up and operational handover, ensuring critical EHS risks and requirements are effectively transferred to the site team.
• Drive a strong EHS culture and leadership engagement across the project through capability building, field engagement, proactive risk identification, good catches and near-miss reporting.
• Provide regular visibility of EHS performance, critical risks, incidents, audits and corrective actions to project and business leadership, driving continuous improvement and zero-harm performance.

Phase 2 – Operational Site | Site EHS Manager Accountabilities

• Collaborate with Central Engg/EHS team in finalisation of Project scope, Design house reviews and execution of the Greenfield Capex safety budget @$ 1.5 MM.
• Lead the site's overall EHS performance and governance, partnering with Plant Leadership and BU/Regional EHS to establish priorities, objectives, KPIs and improvement plans.
• Prepare and execute the annual EHS AOP, including key EHS initiatives, capability-building plans, resources and improvement projects.
• Ensure implementation and continual improvement of GEHSMS, including applicable standards, procedures, critical risk controls and site EHS requirements.
• Ensure compliance with applicable EHS statutory requirements, including maintenance of licenses, permits, statutory records and submissions through applicable compliance portals, and liaison with DISH, Pollution Control Board, Fire Authorities and other government bodies.
• Ensure effective implementation of Permit-to-Work, risk assessment and Management of Change processes, with field verification of critical controls and high-risk activities.
• Drive compliance with MESS, Hazardous Energy/LOTO, Machine Safety, Electrical Safety, Process Safety, Chemical Safety and other applicable critical risk requirements.
• Conduct site EHS inspections, GEHSMS self-assessments, internal audits and compliance audits, and ensure timely closure and sustainability of identified actions.
• Ensure timely incident, near-miss and good-catch reporting and investigation, including root-cause analysis, corrective actions and communication of learnings.
• Conduct regular Safety Committee meetings and EHS management reviews, including review of hazards, near misses, incidents, audit findings, critical risks and action status.
• Maintain Fire Protection, Emergency Response and Crisis Management systems, including emergency preparedness, mock drills, response team capability and readiness of fire protection systems.
• Coordinate with FM Global to maintain site HPR requirements, close recommendations and ensure completion of required annual FM Global visits/reviews.
• Ensure effective environmental compliance and performance, including ETP operations, wastewater treatment and discharge parameters, air emissions, hazardous waste, solid waste, chemical management and applicable environmental monitoring.
• Ensure effective Contractor EHS Management, including contractor qualification, onboarding, induction, training, PTW compliance, risk assessment, field verification and performance monitoring.
• Plan and conduct EHS training, awareness and capability-building programs for employees, contractors and critical EHS roles, including statutory training requirements.
• Maintain accurate EHS documentation, records and reporting, including myEHS, statutory submissions, audit records, incident records, compliance status and EHS performance dashboards.
• Monitor and publish EHS performance reports, including leading and lagging indicators, trends, action closure and key risks, and provide regular updates to Plant Leadership and BU/Regional EHS.
• Build employee participation and a strong EHS culture through safety campaigns, leadership engagement, hazard identification, good catches, near-miss reporting and proactive safety initiatives.
• Ensure adequate EHS resources and capability, including team structure, competency development, succession and bench planning to meet site requirements.
• Partner with Engineering, Operations, HR, Quality, Sustainability and other functions to integrate EHS into projects, MOC, operational changes, productivity initiatives and business decisions.
• Drive continuous improvement and benchmarking of site EHS performance, using audit findings, incident learnings, risk trends and best practices to strengthen operational discipline and sustain GEHSMS compliance

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of EHS experience, with significant exposure to large-scale construction, Greenfield/Brownfield projects, manufacturing industries.
• Engineering degree with a recognized EHS qualification, such as RLI/CLI or equivalent; NEBOSH preferred.
• 3+ years of construction/project EHS experience, preferably on mid-to-large capital projects with multiple contractors & work fronts.
• Strong knowledge of construction safety, contractor management, risk assessment, PTW, hazardous energy, lifting, work at height, excavation, electrical safety, fire protection and emergency response.
• Working knowledge of environmental management and statutory compliance for construction and manufacturing sites.
• Experience establishing EHS systems and capability in a new site/project environment.
• Strong influencing, stakeholder management, communication and coaching skills.
• Proficiency in Tamil Language.
