Job summary

Bain & Company, Inc. is seeking a Project Leader for the AMS CoE based in Gurgaon to support Bain Global case teams on live cases, client development, and proposal support in the AMS Automotive and mobility sectors.

You will lead a team of Analysts and Associates, build forecast models, and contribute IP content, while ensuring high-quality, client-ready research and insights across the Bain network.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of experience in consulting, research, or analytics with AMS‑Automotive focus (undergrad candidates).
• 3–6 years of experience in consulting, research, or analytics with AMS‑Automotive focus (postgrad candidates).
• Graduate or postgraduate from a top-tier institute or commerce/statistical/analytical course from a Tier 1 university.

Who You Will Work With

This is an opportunity to be a part of Bain’s AMS CoE, based out of the Gurugram office, and specifically support Bain Global case teams on live cases, client development, and proposal support.

AMS CoE consists of 70+ team members, organized into approximately 18 teams, working across various sectors such as real estate/construction, heavy machinery, commercial aviation, logistics & transport, and automotive & mobility.

You will work on AMS projects and get exposed to various BCN products ranging from go-to-market strategies, industry analysis, and competitive benchmarking to Excel models, survey analysis, and ad-hoc studies, on live client cases as well as for business/client development.

Project Leaders lead teams of analysts and associates to produce client-ready research and analysis, generating strong business insights and providing implications.

Project Leaders work under the guidance of a Manager/Sr. Manager, playing a key role in driving the team’s overall answer and final materials, client communication, work planning, and team management.

The expectation is to eventually provide significant direction and support to resolve complex issues and effectively manage client and team meetings.

As a Project Leader, the individual would mostly be working in the Automotive & Mobility sector, with possible future opportunities in other AMS sub-sectors, including real estate/construction, heavy machinery, commercial aviation, logistics & transport.

About You

• For candidates with undergraduate qualifications: 5–8 years of experience in consulting, research, or analytics, with hands‑on experience in the AMS‑Automotive sector. Prior experience or familiarity with the AMS sector is a must.

• For candidates with postgraduate qualifications: 3–6 years of experience in consulting, research, or analytics, with hands‑on experience in the AMS‑Automotive sector. Prior experience or familiarity with the AMS sector is a must.

• The incumbent should be a graduate or postgraduate from a top‑tier institute or have pursued a commerce, statistical, or analytical course from a Tier 1 university.

• Strong understanding of the automotive players' ecosystem, including OEMs and suppliers, battery chemistries, the battery value chain, emission regulations, and emerging industry trends.

What You’ll Do

• Take project management responsibility, including leading a team of Analysts and Associates to execute a case.

• Understand client needs and situations and adapt to case expectations; demonstrate the ability to resolve discrete issues and/or drive consensus.

• Communicate data, knowledge, and insights to the entire team; generate and screen realistic solutions based on sound reality checks and recommend actionable solutions.

• Provide content thought leadership, build forecast modeling logic, and potentially manage simple cases and intellectual property (IP) projects independently.

• Ensure timely, high‑quality, zero‑defect research, analysis, and output, while demonstrating the acumen to solve open‑ended problems.

• Effectively manage client and team meetings and deliver effective presentations to the team, team leaders, and managers/partners across the Bain system.

• Serve as the single point of contact for case teams, handling follow-ups and sharing the existing portfolio of IPs and off‑the‑shelf knowledge to help them quickly get up to speed on focus areas.

• Demonstrate proficiency in research, analysis, and Excel modeling, as well as sound business judgment to derive answers in situations where data is not easily available or explicitly published.

• Take first‑level team management responsibility, which may involve allocating and reviewing work for a small team of analysts and conducting performance and feedback discussions.

Additional Skills and Requirements

• Candidate should currently be working in a strategy consulting or research‑oriented setup and possess the acumen to solve open‑ended problems.

• Proficiency in research, analysis, and Excel modeling, with the ability to apply sound business judgment when data is not easily available or explicitly published.

• Ability to interface with primary client contacts, including Bain case teams from global offices.

• Play a bigger role in long‑term AMS IPs with frequent interactions with Practice stakeholders, Partners, and case teams (on cases typically lasting 3–12 months), and potentially end clients whenever opportunities arise.

• Demonstrate independent secondary research, analytical, and storylining skills.

• Think outside the box to solve niche case scenarios through baselining and benchmarking of global best practices.

• Be open to intermittent travel to other Bain offices or client locations for live cases.
