ABOUT THE ROLE
Harbinger Systems is looking for an experienced Product Owner with deep roots in the eLearning, Learning Management Systems (LMS), authoring tools, and Digital Publishing ecosystem. This is not a pure documentation role you will be the critical bridge between customers who need to transform how they deliver learning and the engineering teams who build the solutions.
You will engage directly with clients to uncover business needs, challenge assumptions, ask the questions that surface hidden priorities, and translate complex learning-technology landscapes into crisp, actionable requirements. On the delivery side, you will act as a proxy Product Owner owning the backlog, grooming stories, and being the single source of truth for engineering when they need context or clarification.
The ideal candidate combines the analytical rigour of a seasoned BA with the strategic curiosity of a product thinker someone who understands the full Digital Publishing and eLearning value chain from content authoring to learner delivery and can speak fluently to both business stakeholders and technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead discovery workshops and structured interviews with customer stakeholders L&D heads, content teams, IT owners, and C-suite to elicit business requirements.
- Ask incisive, contextual questions to surface unstated needs, underlying pain points, and strategic learning priorities that customers may not initially articulate.
- Map the customer's current eLearning/publishing ecosystem LMS platforms, authoring tools, content repositories, HCM systems and document the as-is state.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with customer stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle not just at kick-off.
- Translate customer vocabulary (learning outcomes, course completions, learner journeys) into technical and product language that engineering can act on.
Product Owner Orientation
- Own and maintain the product / project backlog create, prioritise, refine, and retire stories in collaboration with the delivery lead.
- Conduct backlog refinement (grooming) sessions with engineering and QA; ensure stories are 'definition of ready' before sprint planning.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the engineering team during sprints resolving ambiguities, approving edge-case decisions, and unblocking progress.
- Define and communicate the sprint goal and release roadmap to both customer and internal stakeholders.
- Accept or reject completed stories against acceptance criteria in sprint reviews; provide structured, actionable feedback.
- Track scope creep proactively and raise change requests with impact assessments when customer needs evolve mid-delivery.
eLearning, LMS & Digital Publishing Domain Expertise
- Apply deep knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) SCORM, xAPI (Tin Can), AICC standards; LMS vendor landscape (Cornerstone, Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, SAP SuccessFactors Learning, Docebo, etc.).
- Understand authoring tool ecosystems: Articulate 360 (Storyline / Rise), Adobe Captivate, iSpring, Lectora, and Adapt framework and advise customers on tool fit for their content strategy.
- Have working knowledge of HCM platforms (SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle HCM, Workday) and how learning data integrates with talent management, onboarding, and performance modules.
- Understand the Digital Publishing value chain: content creation XML/DITA/HTML5 packaging distribution LMS/LRS delivery learner analytics.
- Bring familiarity with EPUB standards, content transformation pipelines, and multi-format publishing workflows (print‑to‑digital, PDF‑to‑eLearning).
- Stay current with eLearning trends: mobile learning, adaptive learning, AI‑driven personalisation, microlearning, and accessibility (WCAG 2.1/2.2, Section 508).

- Artefact authorship: BRD, FSD, Use Cases, User Stories, Acceptance Criteria, Process Flows, RTM, Data Dictionaries.
- Product ownership techniques: backlog management, story mapping, MoSCoW prioritisation, definition of ready/done.
- Agile / Scrum delivery: proficiency in Jira, Confluence, or equivalent; sprint ceremonies and artefact ownership.
- Wireframing and prototyping: Figma, Balsamiq, or similar sufficient to communicate UI intent to engineering.
- Data analysis: ability to interpret learner analytics, completion reports, and LMS/HCM usage data to validate requirements.
- Stakeholder communication: executive-level summarisation, written communication, and meeting facilitation.
Experience & Education
- 4-7 years as a Business Analyst or Product Owner in eLearning, EdTech, or Digital Publishing domain knowledge is non-negotiable.
- Hands‑on experience with at least 2 LMS implementation or integration projects (LMS configuration, SCORM/xAPI troubleshooting, LMS-to‑HCM integration).
- Demonstrated experience working with authoring tool output (Storyline, Rise, Captivate) and understanding of how packaged content is consumed by an LMS.
- Experience in client‑facing roles discovery calls, requirement walkthroughs, UAT coordination, and stakeholder management.
- Exposure to Agile delivery teams; comfortable acting as the business‑side voice in a Scrum team.
- Bachelor's degree in Education Technology, Computer Science, Business, or a related field; postgraduate qualifications a plus.
