Job summary

Initial Therapeutics, Inc. is seeking a Reference Standards Product Manager to lead the development and management of product portfolios related to pharmaceuticals. In this full-time role, you will oversee the entire product lifecycle while collaborating with cross-functional teams and leveraging data-driven insights for product growth.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree with at least 5 years in the pharmaceutical industry, along with superb analytical skills and experience in managing large product portfolios.

Brief Job Overview

As part of the USP Programs, Regions, Operations, and Strategy (PROpS) Division, the Reference Standards Product Manager leads the development and management of the Small Molecules, Complex Generics, and General Chapters portfolio of reference standards. The Product Management function is responsible for overseeing the full product lifecycle (development to discontinuation), understanding key industry trends, applying data‑driven and analytic decision making and making customer‑focused recommendations that drive product portfolio growth. This role is an individual contributor who will be responsible for implementation of projects and processes that enable decisions about new and existing products. Core activities will also include the development of prioritization, forecasting, and financial models that enhance product mix, optimization and overall performance. This is a highly collaborative role that will be expected to work globally across the organization including Science, Operations, Sales, Regions, Pricing, Trade Compliance, and Marketing. As a product manager, this role will drive product strategy, lead cross‑functional teams in planning product roadmaps, discount and promotion strategies and ensure the successful launch and growth of innovative, high‑quality standards and solutions to drive USP’s mission and vision of improving global health.

The Reference Standards Product Manager has the following responsibilities:
  • Item forecasting, pricing, and margin analysis
  • Develop and present business case and supporting rationale for new and existing items
  • Stays abreast of industry and market trends and key competitive intelligence to drive product strategies
  • Lead pipeline prioritization efforts, aligning pipeline to segment value and organizational strategies/prioritization
  • Work with Industry Programs, Science and Operations, and others to facilitate new product launches
  • Support Industry Programs, Regional and Sales staff in new product training and related customer solutions
  • Support continuous improvement of forecasting and product performance against key success metrics
  • Manage product mix and optimization for selection and discontinuation of products that enhance profitability
  • Identify new product opportunities based on customer needs, feedback, and strategic insights
  • Work collaboratively with Marketing, Sales, and Regions to launch and monitor feedback and uptake of items
  • Maintain and update product roadmaps to meet targeted product pipeline and growth goals
Who is USP Looking For?
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in business, Marketing or Science fields with an MBA degree
  • Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry or related field
  • At least two (2) years managing large product portfolios across B2B and/or B2C companies and managing high‑performance cross‑functional teams
  • Experience with financial analysis, forecasting, data and analytical tools
  • Strong quantitative and critical thinking skills with ability to handle complexity and drive data‑driven solutions
  • Ability to develop and present dashboards, templates and business cases supported by strong rationale, customer insights and business growth goals
  • Self‑starter and highly self‑motivated, assumes personal accountability for results and performance
  • Working knowledge of syndicated data and analysis, such as IQVIA, Cortellis, Dailymed, etc
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills
