The Opportunity
Hitachi Energy India Development Centre (IDC) is a research and development facility with around 500 R&D engineers, specialists, and experts focused on creating and sustaining digital solutions, new products, and technology. IDC is located in Chennai and Bangalore and collaborates with the R&D and Research centres of Hitachi Energy across more than 15 locations in 12 countries. Over the past 20 years, IDC has secured more than 200 international papers and 150 patents. This role is responsible for conducting and managing product development, type testing and design improvements related to electrical aspects of product design across the G&PQSS range to ensure the product portfolio remains at the forefront of technology, including performance improvements, cost reductions, increased manufacturability, and new application or market developments.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Lead R&D activities and collaborate with the team to design and develop electrical systems and products. Experience with software like DS‑E3 is an advantageous requirement.
- Integrate electrical components and systems and conduct testing to ensure functionality and performance. Willingness to learn complex electrical systems and passion for cutting‑edge technology are required.
- Work closely with product‑line cross‑functional teams across geographical regions, including SCM, manufacturing/production, service, engineering, sales, project management, and product management.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including design documentation, test procedures, and product manuals.
- Actively engage with global market and industry representatives to capture market trends and identify future development project opportunities, with a thorough understanding of competitor offerings.
- Ensure alignment with assigned project development targets (time, cost, quality) and coordinate with the project team involved in specific R&D activities.
- Generate new ideas for improvement and develop innovative solutions to enhance existing products, services, or processes.
- Think creatively and develop novel solutions to complex problems, taking initiative to identify opportunities for innovation and proposing solutions.

Your Background
- Required master’s degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Power System, or Power Electronics from a reputed institution.
- Hands‑on experience in R&D new product/prototype development and type testing.
- Preparation of electrical design schematics, product manuals, hardware specifications, software specifications, and power system calculations, and selection of electrical and electronic components, cables, converters, and auxiliary equipment for any LV or MV product integration.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus TCP/IP, CAN, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET) and experience in selection, assembly, and testing of hardware and software.
- Knowledge of relevant standards such as IEC, UL, SAE, IEEE, and product safety and cyber security.
- Detailed knowledge and work experience with multi‑winding power transformers, power converters, FACTS equipment, harmonic filters, DC or AC charging systems for battery charging in MW range, and energy storage systems (ESS).
- Preferred candidates have work experience in fields such as E‑mobility product AC/DC charging, STATCOM/LV‑MV electrical projects in MW range, renewable energy products (BESS, wind, solar) in MW range, and proficiency with DS‑E3, AutoCAD, MATLAB, and ETAP.
- Ability to work with global large teams, stress tolerance, strategic thinking, and proficiency in spoken and written English.
