Divisional Overview

The CIO function oversees group‑wide technology and our data office. We’re aligned to our key businesses across the group and operate enterprise‑wide functions for risk management, governance and controls, supply chain and infrastructure. Our purpose is to support Nomura’s business strategy and deliver consistent group‑wide services based on common operating principles.

Business Overview

The CIO Chief Controls Office (CCO) supports the CIO function in setting and enforcing consistent implementation of a risk‑based control framework, to manage all CIO owned L1 risks within current risk appetite. We support the delivery of the CIO priorities and enable the achievement of Nomura’s strategic ambitions.

Role & Responsibilities

This is a key role that will be pivotal in strengthening the CIO Chief Controls Office at Nomura. Reporting to the Controls MI Lead, this role will support the CCO Governance and MI capability. The role is part of a global team that will formalize, standardize and globalize Risk management governance and MI across CIO. The role will both support and contribute to the design and implementation of an MI and reporting strategy, and as needed will also support ‘business as useful’ monthly risk management reporting and MI activity – such as MI material for key forums and decision‑making committees.

  • Support on the design, build out and management of the CIO CCO Risk Management Governance and MI capability.
  • Support delivery and continued improvement of CCO Governance and MI key ‘business as usual’ outputs; such as supporting the CIO Risk Management Committee monthly and CIO LT Controls meetings – process, agenda content and supporting MI.
  • Support the design and definition of CCO Governance and MI target end state - and transition states - in line with wider CCO strategy. This role will then help oversee day‑to‑day the delivery of the agreed strategy.
  • Support the design of a standardized CIO Control Book (in target state), and the process to ensure streamlined automated production that meets stakeholders needs to support their risk management.
Mandatory Skill Set
  • Has an understanding of control frameworks, risk management governance and management information in a financial services context.
  • Takes a flexible - albeit data‑led approach - to help shape strategic direction, and who responds positively to feedback, internal and external circumstances.
  • Can contribute to a culture that strives to continually improve business processes that impact positively on the business.
  • Understand Management Information, its design, visualization, production processes and data requirements.
  • Is outcome focused, who can take ownership of actions, decisions and outcomes, demonstrating accountability and commitment to delivering quality outcomes within required timeframes.
  • Has problem‑solver skills, adaptable and flexible, with fungible skillset which can be applied to multiple CCO services.
  • Has effective communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Combines governance and MI skillsets with a technical understanding relevant to the GCIO risk management agenda - such as Information Technology (IT), Information Security (IS), and/ or Data Management.
  • Has experience in Power BI reporting.
  • Has experience in a Linux, Informatica & MS SQL database.
  • Preferably has hands‑on experience in Service Now Integrated Risk Management (IRM).
