Role
Position: Principal OpenBMC Engineer
Responsibilities
- Design, implement remote monitor, control, debug, recover and automate complex hardware platforms such as servers, AI systems, and validation labs using BMC/OpenBMC.
- Own board bring-up and low-level enablement: bootloaders (U-Boot), Linux kernel and device tree adjustments, and drivers for I2C/I3C, SPI, SMBus, PCIe, PMBus, UART, GPIO, etc.
- Implement manageability features: power/thermal controls, sensor monitoring, firmware update flows, event logging, KVM, and host-BIOS/BMC communication.
- Build and customize OpenBMC distro with Yocto (systemd, D-Bus services).
- Performance, reliability, and quality: profiling, unit tests, code coverage, static analysis, and CI/CD for firmware modules.
- Cross-functional collaboration: work with hardware, BIOS/UEFI, platform, validation, and security teams.
- Very strong experience in C/C++ along with hands-on scripting knowledge. Excellent knowledge in Linux kernel internals, IPC/System V, multi-threading software.
- Jtag, HW/SW debugging tools.
- Experience level: 10+ years.
Preferred Qualifications
- Good to have: Protocols/standards: IPMI (KCS, SOL, FRU/SDR/SEL), Redfish (JSON/HTTPS), PLDM, MCTP, PMBus, NVMe-MI.
- Hardware familiarity: AST2500/AST2600 or similar BMC SoCs, NC-SI NICs, CPLD/FPGA interfaces, sensors, PSU, DIMM, SSD/NVMe, PCIe.
- Firmware security/Root of Trust, BIOS concepts, CI/CD for firmware, contributions to OpenBMC or DMTF standards.
- Experience in NVMe, RoCE2, interface and cluster management, control plane.
