Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Engineer - Secondary Substation to join our Transmission & Distribution team in India. You will lead a team of Protection & Control engineers, review designs, and coordinate across multi-disciplinary teams to deliver robust P&C solutions for HV substations.

The role covers protection coordination studies, relay settings and wiring diagrams, as well as input to bids and budgets. Hybrid work arrangements and support for professional accreditation are provided.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in electrical/power engineering.
• 12–15 years of experience preferred in grid/substation design.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent.
• Experience leading large design teams for grid substations in a global consultancy.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of protection and control engineers.
• Develop and optimise P&C solutions including relay settings and diagrams.
• Act as Owner's Engineer reviewing supplier designs and calculations.
• Conduct protection coordination studies and settings calculations (ETAP optional).
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams and project managers.
• Support technical reports, bids, client relationships, and meetings.

Principal Engineer - Secondary Substation

We are seeking a Principal Engineer - Secondary Substation to join our Transmission & Distribution team in India. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated engineer to contribute to impactful Energy projects across the globe and continue developing their technical expertise in a supportive, high-performing team.

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Protection & Control engineers and technical specialists.
• Develop, refine and optimise P&C solutions including creation of key line diagrams, schematic diagrams, relay settings, SCADA topology diagrams, wiring diagrams, design specifications, interface drawings etc. for various Transmission & Distribution clients.
• Owner's Engineers role, to review and comment on supplier designs and calculations on behalf of HV Clients, including BESS and Renewables projects
• Conduct Protection Coordination Studies and Settings calculations where required using ETAP or similar software (desired).
• Coordinate across multi-disciplinary engineering environments and project managers.
• Support with technical reports and bids, as well as foster positive relationships with clients.
• Ensure adherence to AECOM and client design management processes while leading project and client meetings as needed.
• Mentor team members in their development, facilitating opportunities that build competency, and assisting with professional accreditation where appropriate.
• Ensure design submissions comply with codes, standards such as IEEE, IEC, National Grid, and quality requirements.
• Drive innovation in AI, digital, scripts automation, develop the user defined dynamic & transient models.
• Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
• Prepares technical specification sections.
• Provides input to the development of engineering budgets and schedules.

Qualifications

• Master of Engineering degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
• 12-15 years of work experience is preferred.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng), or Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent in the relevant field from any global organization (e.g., Institution of Electrical Engineers, UK)
• Prior experience in leading large design engineering teams performing Grid Substation design in a global consultancy firm is preferred.
• Experience in HV Plant Design for EHV Grid Substations is mandatory.
• Experience in P&C FEED or detailed design of high voltage installations (132kV to 400kV).
• Experience in preparation of Substation Protection and Control Scheme drawings, Relay Coordination and Settings, Panel GA drawings, Substation SCADA and communication protocols, etc is preferred.
• Previous experience in design teams working for Grid Utilities (e.g., Global National Grid, Transgrid, Powergrid etc.) for Substations and Transmission Line Electrical design.
• Exposure to International standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI, Australian Standards, NEC, BS, Middle East region codes & standards, etc.) is preferred
• Should have led large teams and faced clients independently.
• Previous design experience working with GIS and AIS EHV substation HV Plant Secondary design is preferable.
