Job summary

Talenton in Bengaluru is seeking a Principal Engineer – Roku / BrightScript with 13–16 years of experience to lead production Roku apps, work on SceneGraph architecture, and drive performance engineering.

You will guide a multi-engineer team, own architectural decisions, optimize memory and rendering, and contribute to CI/CD and automation frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of production Roku/BrightScript applications.
• Design scalable SceneGraph architecture, application routing, deep-linking, and threading models.

• Drive performance engineering and optimization on constrained Roku devices.
• Develop and review SceneGraph components, lifecycle management, and observers.

Job Overview

We are looking for a Principal Engineer – Roku / BrightScript with strong hands-on experience in Roku/BrightScript development, SceneGraph architecture, Performance Engineering, and technical leadership.

The role will be part of a client platform engineering team working on production OTT/streaming applications and will involve architecture, development, performance optimization, and technical leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of production Roku/BrightScript applications.
• Design scalable SceneGraph architecture, application routing, deep-linking, and task/threading models.
• Own architecture decisions and provide technical direction for multi-engineer client application development.
• Drive performance engineering and optimization on constrained Roku devices, including memory footprint, rendering performance, application launch time, frame rate, node recycling, and garbage collection.
• Develop and review SceneGraph components, ensuring correct use of field observers, node creation patterns, focus chain, and component lifecycle.
• Work on media playback, player state machines, DRM integration, and OTT/streaming functionality.
• Define coding standards, conduct technical reviews, and provide architecture sign-off.
• Contribute to CI/CD, BrightScript-specific linting, static analysis, and performance benchmarking.
• Evaluate and implement Roku automation frameworks for deep-link automation, SceneGraph inspection, and performance testing.
• Translate existing/reference implementations into production BrightScript applications while maintaining behavioral fidelity.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to a multi-engineer development team.

• 5+ years of hands-on production Roku/BrightScript development.
• Expert knowledge of Roku SceneGraph.
• Experience shipping and maintaining a production Roku application through full Roku Channel Certification.
• Strong Performance Engineering experience on Roku devices.
• Strong Software Architecture and Technical Leadership experience.
• Experience with task threading, focus chain management, and SceneGraph component lifecycle.
• Experience with OTT, streaming media, or Connected TV products is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of DRM integration, player state machines, and media playback.
• Experience with third-party SDK integrations in a BrightScript/Connected TV environment is an advantage.
• Experience with Roku Automation Framework (RAF) or similar automation frameworks is an advantage.

Candidate Profile

• Strong hands-on development background with the ability to combine coding, architecture, performance optimization, and technical leadership.
