As a Principal Engineer at EL, you’ll own and drive the engineering direction of the company. You’ll work with an existing team of 4 strong full-stack engineers, writing production code while setting the technical bar across architecture, scalability, and reliability.
This is a hands‑on role with real ownership. You’ll partner closely with the CEO and product leadership to turn business priorities into well-designed systems, guide major technical decisions, and ensure we move fast without breaking fundamentals.
If you enjoy building critical systems, mentoring capable engineers, and taking responsibility for how an organization engineers at scale — this role is for you.
- Hands-On Coding (50%): Own full-stack epics/features end-to-end (React/Node/Postgres stack) from ideation to production.
- Technical Leadership (20%): Guide architecture decisions, system design, DevOps (CI/CD, GCP, Kubernetes), and infosec (auth, encryption, SOC2 basics).
- Mentoring & Code Quality (15%): Conduct code reviews for 80%+ of PRs, pair-program with juniors/mids, run tech syncs to upskill the team.
- Hiring & Team Building (5%): Screen candidates, lead technical interviews, contribute to scaling the team.
- Product Strategy (10%): Collaborate with CEO/Product Manager on roadmap prioritization, effort estimation, and refinement.
- 10+ years full-stack experience prior Series A/B startup exposure essential.
- Expertise: GCP in-depth knowledge, Core Ruby and React understanding in-depth, Modern JS stack (React/Next.js, Node/Express), databases (Postgres), cloud infra, DevOps tools.
- Proven mentoring: Helped juniors grow comfortable with mixed-skill teams.
- Soft skills: Startup hustle, CEO collaboration, clear communication.
- Indian startup ecosystem knowledge is a plus.
- Bonus: ESOP/compliance domain familiarity, Principal/Staff Engineer background.
