Job description

Responsibilities & Qualifications

• Lead and oversee the delivery of complex ecological data analysis and reporting across multiple projects and sectors.
• Provide strategic direction and technical oversight for habitat loss/gain calculations, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, and ecological impact evaluations.
• Champion the use of advanced digital tools (e.g., GIS, remote sensing, data visualization platforms) to enhance ecological deliverables.
• Guide the development of habitat mitigation and compensation design plans, ensuring alignment with UK legislation and client expectations.
• Review and sign off on high-quality reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), BNG assessments, and Nature Conservation (NC) reports.
• Provide expert input on European Protected Species (EPS) investigations and licensing requirements.
• Lead quality assurance and peer review processes for technical outputs.
• Mentor and develop junior and mid‑level consultants, fostering a culture of learning, innovation, and collaboration.
• Drive internal knowledge sharing initiatives and build strong working relationships across WSP’s global ecology network.
• Support business development activities, including bid and proposal development.
• Represent WSP in client meetings, technical forums, and industry events as a subject‑matter expert.
• Proven experience in international ecological consultancy or conservation science, with a strong understanding of UK ecological standards and legislation.
• Advanced expertise in ecological data management, analysis, and interpretation.
• Demonstrated leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams and delivering complex technical projects.
• Strong consultancy‑grade report writing and review capabilities.
• Proficiency in GIS and other spatial analysis tools.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills.
• Strategic thinking with a proactive approach to problem‑solving and innovation.
• Deep understanding of European Protected Species and licensing frameworks.
• Experience in biodiversity metrics, including BNG and habitat condition assessments.
• Skilled in database management and Microsoft Office applications.

Qualifications
