Position: Plant Quality Manager

Job Summary: The Plant Quality Manager is responsible for managing and improving all quality systems and processes across the manufacturing plant, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality electronic and electro-mechanical products. The role oversees all aspects of quality from supplier quality to in-process control and final inspection covering PCBA manufacturing, mechanical fabrication, surface finishing, and box build assemblies. The position requires strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and a strategic approach to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Leadership & Management
- Lead and manage the plants Quality Assurance and Quality Control teams.
- Develop and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 / ISO 13485 (as applicable).
- Define plant quality objectives, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with business goals.
- Promote a strong culture of quality, accountability, and operational excellence across all departments.
2. Product & Process Quality
- Oversee quality control across all manufacturing operations:
- PCBA: SMT, wave soldering, through-hole assembly, functional testing, conformal coating.
- Mechanical fabrication: sheet metal, machining, powder coating, plating, and mechanical assembly.
- Box Build Integration: electro-mechanical assembly, wiring harnessing, testing, and packaging.
- Implement and monitor process control systems (SPC, Cp/Cpk studies) to ensure consistent process capability.
- Ensure implementation of PFMEA, control plans, work instructions, and standard inspection criteria for all product lines.
- Drive problem-solving and root cause analysis (8D, 5 Why, DMAIC) to prevent recurrence of quality issues.
3. Supplier & Incoming Quality
- Oversee incoming material inspection and supplier quality performance.
- Work with sourcing and supplier development teams to qualify new suppliers and improve existing ones.
- Manage supplier audits, corrective actions, and PPAP submissions where applicable.
4. Customer Quality Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customer quality issues, audits, and product approvals.
- Lead investigation and resolution of customer complaints, ensuring timely corrective and preventive actions.
- Support NPI (New Product Introduction) activities through quality planning, validation, and risk assessment.
5. Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure compliance with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-A-600, IPC/WHMA-A-620), RoHS, REACH, and other industry or regulatory requirements.
- Lead Lean Six Sigma projects to improve yield, reduce rework, and enhance product reliability.
- Utilize data-driven tools and metrics to identify opportunities for process and system improvement.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (Masters degree preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum 1520 years of experience in Quality Management within an Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) or Electro-Mechanical Assembly environment.
- Strong working knowledge of PCBA, mechanical fabrication, surface finishing (powder coating, plating), and box build operations.
- Proven experience in handling customer audits, quality certifications, and managing cross-functional teams.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in FMEA, PPAP, APQP, SPC, MSA, 8D problem solving, and Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
- Familiar with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 13485, and AS9100 quality standards (as relevant).
- Hands‑on experience with inspection/testing tools, ERP/MES systems, and data analysis software (Excel, Minitab, Power BI).
