Job summary

UltraTech Cement is seeking a Quality Assurance/Quality Control professional to ensure concrete product quality, promote VAC usage, and optimize mixes at our Maharashtra plants. You will lead demos for VAC products, address customer feedback, and support mix design and testing across production sites.

The role focuses on maintaining BIS-compliant lab standards, calculating mix designs, and coordinating third-party testing to ensure product conformity and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Conduct demos for VAC products to clients to explain functionality
• Resolve day-to-day customer grievances on cracks, workability, slump, pumping, cube failures; implement corrective actions
• Provide mix design calculations and material analysis to customers when required
• Maintain quality control labs and ensure BIS code display and calibration on schedule
• Perform physical stock measurement and maintain quality records in Labsys per QCI/ISO and equipment calibration
• Prepare and analyze Plant plans and budgets
• Generate mix and competitor data; arrive at customer-specific mix design
• Test concrete cubes; analyze strength results; run VAC product trials; verify material conformity; coordinate third-party testing
• Ensure VAC orders are executed on time; monitor batch quality deviations; maintain workability and moisture corrections

Job Purpose

To ensure quality assurance and quality control systems of concrete products. Promotion of VAC and optimization of mixes.

Job Context & Major Challenges

The RMC Industry is highly fragmented and very competitive. As a major RMC player we face competition from other organized players and local players which makes superior service delivery along with quality products important for good margins. There is huge growth in infrastructure which opens up opportunities for setting up commercial and dedicated plants. The plant and its resources need to be cost effective with focus on maximizing capacity utilization. This makes it imperative for each plant to be efficient and profitable. The plant employees need to be focused and deliver high performance in each of their KRAs and accountabilities.

KRA1 Business Development

• Conducting demos for VAC products to clients to help them understand their functionality

KRA2 Customer Feedback

• Resolve day to day customer grievances related to cracks, workability, slump control, pumping issues cube failures etc. and take corrective and preventive actions based on site feedback
• Visit customer/ site periodically to gather feedback and identify areas of concern

KRA3 Customer Management

• Provide detailed mix design calculation, physical and chemical analysis of raw material to customer as and when required

KRA4 Maintenance Management

• Ensure the upkeep of the quality control labs with proper product display and availability of relevant BIS codes
• Ensure calibration of instruments is done before due date

KRA5 MIS

• Conduct physical stock measurement and reconciliation
• Maintain all the quality records on Labsys and update as per QCI and ISO. Maintain records related to calibration of all testing equipment

KRA6 Planning & Budgeting

• Prepare, consolidate and analyze Plant plan and budget

KRA7 Product Development

• Generate mix and competitor data at plant level for further analysis
• Arrive at the mix design as per customer’s requirements

KRA8 Product Testing

• Conduct testing of cubes of concrete to check if they are as per the Quality Standards
• Conduct statistical analysis of cubes strength results and monitoring performance of the products
• Conduct trials for VAC Products to check various functional parameters
• Check the quality of the raw material to ensure adherence to desired standards and specifications. Reject the material that does not match the required specifications
• Collaborate with third party testing for the cubes as and when required
• Undertake trials for performance/ dosage of different admixtures, other special materials and routine products to ensure quality parameters are met

KRA9 Production Execution

• Ensure VAC orders to each plant are executed in time and as per required specifications
• Track the standard deviation of the produced batch to ensure quality of concrete is within permissible limits and take corrective measures
• Ensure workability and cohesiveness of concrete at plant and at pouring site
• Implement moisture corrections during production
• Monitor the right dosage/ admixture at batching plants during production
