Thermax Limited is seeking a Piping Designer for green hydrogen and BoP systems at Energy House, Pune. You will lead piping layout, 3D modelling, and documentation for Alkaline/ PEM/SOEC electrolyser packages and related utilities.

You will design, review, and optimize piping layouts, GA drawings, isometrics, and MTOs, ensuring compliance with ASME B31.3/31.12 and project specs. Collaboration across disciplines and support through fabrication and commissioning is expected.

Key Objectives

The Piping Designer will be responsible for piping layoutdesign, 3D modelling, engineering, optimization, and documentation for greenhydrogen generation packages, including Alkaline, PEM, and Solid OxideElectrolyser (SOEC) systems, Balance of Plant (BoP) equipment, and associatedutility systems.

The role involves supporting engineering activities fromconcept development and basic engineering through detailed design, fabrication,installation, and commissioning, while ensuring safety, reliability,maintainability, constructability, and compliance with applicable industrycodes, standards, project specifications, and quality requirements.

Major Deliverables

1. Piping Design and 3D Modelling

Develop and maintain 3D piping models using CADWorx PlantProfessional based on P&IDs, equipment layouts, plot plans, pipingspecifications, and project design criteria.

Prepare piping layouts, general arrangement (GA)drawings, piping isometrics, support drawings, and material take-offs (MTOs).

Ensure proper routing, equipment accessibility,maintenance clearances, operability, and constructability.

2. CADWorx Configuration and Specification Management

Configure and maintain CADWorx project settings, pipingspecifications, catalogues, component data, and project configuration files.

Update component dimensions, material grades, pressureclasses, and data tables as per approved project requirements.

Troubleshoot modelling, specification loading, andconfiguration-related issues.

3. ISOGEN Configuration and Isometric Generation

Configure ISOGEN settings, drawing styles, title blocks,annotations, dimensions, and material tables as per project standards.

Generate, check, and revise piping isometric drawings andassociated material reports.

Resolve isometric generation errors and ensureconsistency between 3D models and issued drawings.

4. 3D Model Review and Clash Detection

Review and coordinate multidisciplinary 3D models usingAutodesk Navisworks.

Perform clash detection and coordinate resolution ofpiping, equipment, structural, civil, electrical, and instrumentationinterfaces.

Incorporate approved model review comments and ensuredesign accuracy and constructability.

5. Piping Design Engineering and Standards

Interpret P&IDs, piping material specifications, linelists, equipment drawings, and applicable engineering standards.

Apply relevant piping codes, including ASME B31.3, ASMEB31.12 and project-specific specifications, as applicable.

Coordinate with piping stress engineers to incorporatesupport locations, flexibility requirements, and equipment nozzle loadlimitations.

6. Engineering Deliverables and Quality Control

Prepare, check, and issue piping design deliverables inaccordance with project schedules and quality requirements.

Verify consistency between 3D models, P&IDs, pipingspecifications, isometrics, and MTOs.

Maintain drawing registers, revision records, modelreview comments, and project documentation.

7. Project Coordination and Execution

Coordinate with process, mechanical, piping stress,civil, structural, electrical, and instrumentation teams to resolve designinterfaces.

Execute assigned piping design activities independently,with minimal supervision.

Incorporate approved design changes and provide technicalsupport for fabrication, construction, and site-related queries.

Support junior designers and contribute to improvingdesign quality and productivity.

8. Software Skills and Technical Competencies

Hands-on experience in CADWorx Plant Professional for 3Dpiping modelling and drawing extraction.

Working knowledge of ISOGEN configuration and isometricgeneration.

Experience in CADWorx project configuration,specification management, catalogue maintenance, and data table updates.

Proficiency in Autodesk Navisworks for model review andclash detection, and AutoCAD for 2D drafting.

Good understanding of piping components, piping materialspecifications, engineering drawings, and applicable design standards.

Strong coordination, problem-solving, and technicalcommunication skills.

3. Critical Competencies and Essential Attributes

Strong knowledge of piping design, layout engineering,and 3D modelling for green hydrogen generation packages, including Alkaline orSOEC electrolysers and associated Balance of Plant (BoP) systems.

Hands-on experience with CADWorx, AutoCAD Plant 3D,AutoCAD, and related piping design tools.
