Job description

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with strong competence in gas pipeline engineering and piping stress analysis for power, energy transition, industrial gas and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate should have hands‑on experience in pipeline route development, pipeline mechanical design, piping material specification, wall thickness calculations, design basis preparation, stress analysis, flexibility assessment and support engineering using CAESAR II.

The candidate should be capable of working across concept, FEED, detailed engineering and construction support stages, with sound knowledge of relevant pipeline, piping and pressure system codes. The role requires effective coordination with process, civil, structural, instrumentation, electrical, HSE, geotechnical, construction and project engineering teams, while ensuring safe, compliant, practical and cost-effective engineering deliverables.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review gas pipeline design basis, line lists, design criteria, material specifications, valve specifications, construction specifications and technical data sheets.
  • Perform pipeline mechanical design checks including design pressure and temperature basis, wall thickness calculation, corrosion allowance, material selection, class location considerations and code compliance checks.
  • Carry out piping and pipeline stress analysis using CAESAR II for above‑ground piping, buried piping, compressor station piping, metering station piping, tie‑ins, crossings and critical gas pipeline interfaces.
  • Evaluate sustained, expansion, occasional and operating load cases including thermal expansion, pressure, weight, wind, seismic, settlement, slug, PSV reaction, equipment nozzle loads and anchor/support reactions.
  • Develop and review pipe support philosophy, special support sketches, spring support requirements, anchor locations, guide/line stop arrangements and flexibility solutions.
  • Assess interface loads on compressors, turbines, filters, separators, metering skids, pressure reduction stations, valves, vessels, flanges and equipment nozzles.
  • Prepare and review stress analysis reports, stress isometrics, support mark‑ups, load summaries, nozzle load summaries and recommendations for layout improvement.
  • Review pipeline route drawings, alignment sheets, crossing drawings, typical installation details, plot plans, equipment layouts, piping GAs, isometrics and 3D model outputs from a mechanical and stress perspective.
  • Support engineering for AGIs, compressor stations, pig launcher/receiver stations, metering and regulating stations, above‑ground piping networks and buried pipeline systems.
  • Coordinate with civil/structural teams for pipe rack loads, support steelwork, foundations, anchor blocks, thrust restraints, buried pipe restraints and settlement considerations.
  • Coordinate with process and safety teams for design cases, operating envelope, pressure protection philosophy, venting, blowdown, isolation, hazardous area requirements and HAZOP/HAZID actions.
  • Participate in technical bid evaluations, vendor document reviews, design reviews, model reviews, constructability reviews and interdisciplinary checks.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables comply with project specifications, client requirements, applicable codes, safety standards, quality requirements and agreed schedules.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Pipeline Engineering, Piping Engineering, Energy Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in gas pipeline engineering, piping engineering, piping stress analysis or mechanical design for EPC, consultancy, owner’s engineer or operating company environments.
  • Advanced hands‑on experience with CAESAR II for piping stress analysis, including model development, load case preparation, code stress checking, buried pipe modelling, support optimisation and report preparation.
  • Strong working knowledge of gas pipeline and piping codes such as ASME B31.8, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.1, EN 1594, IGEM/TD/1, API, ISO and other relevant project‑specific standards.
  • Good understanding of gas pipeline systems including transmission pipelines, high‑pressure gas distribution, AGIs, compressor stations, pressure reduction stations, metering stations, pigging facilities and tie‑ins.
  • Experience in pipeline mechanical calculations such as wall thickness, pressure design, flexibility, expansion, thrust/anchor force, support loads, allowable stress checks and equipment interface loads.
  • Ability to review and challenge pipeline routing, piping layouts, isometrics, support arrangements, constructability, maintainability and operability from a mechanical engineering perspective.
  • Knowledge of materials, valves, fittings, flanges, gaskets, insulation, corrosion protection, coating, cathodic protection interfaces, hydrotest requirements and commissioning support activities.
