Job summary

Dr Bhasin's Path Lab in New Delhi requires a Consultant in Lab Medicine / Pathology with 2–4 years of post-qualification experience. The role entails accurate pathology testing, result validation, and timely reporting across pathology disciplines.

The candidate should hold MD/DNB in Lab Medicine or Pathology with valid DMC registration. Prior NABL experience and QA involvement are preferred; reporting to the Lab Director on a full-time basis.

Qualifications

• MD/DNB in Lab Medicine or Pathology is required.
• Valid DMC registration is mandatory.
• 2–4 years post-qualification experience in diagnostic pathology or laboratory medicine.

Responsibilities

• Perform and interpret routine pathology investigations.
• Review and validate laboratory test results before reporting.
• QA, quality control, and adherence to SOPs across Hematology, Clinical Pathology, Biochemistry, Cytopathology.
• Correlate lab findings with clinical information and communicate critical results to clinicians.
• Supervise lab technicians and ensure proper specimen handling and reporting timelines.
• Maintain confidentiality and documentation as per NABL/ISO requirements.

JOB DESCRIPTION - Consultant Lab Medicine / Pathology

Job Purpose

To provide accurate, timely, and clinically relevant pathology services by examining and interpreting laboratory specimens, validating test results, ensuring quality and patient safety, and supporting clinicians in diagnosis and treatment decisions.

Key Responsibilities

A. Diagnostic & Clinical Responsibilities

• Perform and interpret routine pathology investigations as per qualification and assigned scope of practice.
• Review and validate laboratory test results before report authorization.
• QA & Reporting based on duty assignment in Hematology, Clinical Pathology, Biochemistry, Cytopathology.
• Correlate laboratory findings with clinical information wherever required.
• Identify abnormal, critical, or inconsistent results and initiate appropriate action.
• Communicate critical and significant findings promptly to the concerned clinician/team.
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting of pathology results.

B. Quality & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to laboratory SOPs, quality standards, biosafety practices and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in internal quality control and external quality assurance programs.
• Monitor quality indicators and take corrective/preventive action wherever required.
• Ensure proper documentation, traceability and record maintenance.
• Participate in internal audits, inspections and accreditation-related activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information.

C. Laboratory Operations

• Supervise and guide laboratory technicians and other relevant staff during assigned shifts.
• Ensure proper specimen collection, identification, processing, storage and disposal.
• Ensure efficient utilization of reagents, consumables and laboratory resources..
• Coordinate with laboratory, front office, phlebotomy and customer-care teams to resolve operational issues.
• Ensure efficient utilization of reagents, consumables and laboratory resources.

Educational Qualifications

• MD/DNB in Lab Medicine / Pathology from a recognized institution.
• Valid DMC registration.
• Senior Residency experience will be preferred but not mandatory.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong diagnostic and analytical skills.
• Sound knowledge of pathology and laboratory medicine.
• Good clinical correlation and report interpretation skills.
• Knowledge and some experience of ISO 15189:2022, NABL 112 & basic QMS.
• Knowledge of laboratory quality management systems.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with technicians, doctors and other healthcare professionals.
• Strong ethical standards and commitment to patient confidentiality.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet defined turnaround times.

Experience

• 2-4 years of relevant post-qualification experience in a diagnostic laboratory, hospital, pathology centre or similar healthcare environment.
• Experience in a NABL-accredited laboratory/diagnostic chain will be preferred.

Working Conditions

• Full-time role in a diagnostic laboratory/healthcare environment.
• May require rotational shifts, weekend duties or on-call responsibilities depending on laboratory operations.
• Must comply with all laboratory safety, hygiene, infection-control and confidentiality protocols.

The Pathologist is expected to ensure high-quality, accurate and timely lab reporting as per lab protocols and SOP and maintain professional and ethical standards, support clinicians and patients, and contribute actively to the continuous improvement of laboratory quality and operational efficiency.
