Job summary

Tenarai seeks an Optical Network Deployment Engineer to support backbone network capacity deployments, optical/IP rollouts, migrations, upgrades and decommissioning. You will work hands-on with DWDM, ROADM, Mux/Demux, amplifiers and transponders, deploying Ciena and Infinera platforms across PoPs and data centers.

Responsibilities include configuring line systems, performing BERT tests, orchestrating chassis installs, coordinating cross-vendor deployments and maintaining robust deployment

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with DWDM and optical networks.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Experience in multi-vendor optical/network environments.
• Proficient in networking concepts (TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS).

Job description

Role: Optical Network Deployment / Backbone Network

Role Overview

We are looking for an Optical Network Deployment Engineer to support backbone network capacity deployments, optical/IP network rollouts, migrations, upgrades and decommissioning. The role requires strong hands-on experience with DWDM, Ciena/Infinera, routing & switching, network deployment and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, configure, deploy and test DWDM line systems, including calibration, verification and BERT testing.
• Deploy and commission Ciena and Infinera optical platforms across new PoPs and Data Centers.
• Configure ROADM, Mux/Demux, Amplifiers, Transponders and optical channels.
• Perform chassis/line-card installation, fiber connectivity, software/firmware upgrades, reboot/bootstrapping and decommissioning.
• Execute network migrations, re-stripes, swaps, capacity upgrades and optimization activities.
• Manage channel builds, cross-connects and optical circuit turn-up.
• Prepare Bill of Materials (BOM), JSN/Job Start Notifications and deployment documentation.
• Troubleshoot optical/network issues, perform root-cause analysis and improve network reliability and scalability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve network design, deployment and operational workflows.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and deployment records.

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Ciena 6500; Ciena/Infinera certification is preferred.
• Expert knowledge of DWDM, ROADM, Mux/Demux, Amplifiers, Transponders and Channel Optimization.
• Strong understanding of fiber optics, patch panels, connectors, cable types and optical transport technologies.
• Experience with DWDM testing tools and methodologies, including BERT.
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP and MPLS.
• CCNA/JNCIA or equivalent networking knowledge.
• Experience in multivendor optical/network environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deployments and work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
