Consultant Cataract Surgeon (Phaco) — Ophthalmology / Eye Care Services

About the Opportunity:
We are recruiting for a clinical role within the healthcare & ophthalmology sector, focused on high-quality cataract care and surgical services. This on-site position supports a busy eye clinic and cataract unit serving patients in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Perform safe, efficient cataract surgeries (phacoemulsification) and IOL implantation with high standards of clinical governance and asepsis.
  • Conduct pre-operative assessment and biometry (optical/A-scan), determine IOL power, and document surgical plans for optimum refractive outcomes.
  • Manage intraoperative complications (e.g., posterior capsular rupture) and post-operative care, including follow-up clinics and adjustment of treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with optometrists, surgical nurses, and theatre staff to optimise patient flow, surgical throughput, and theatre utilisation.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records, surgical logs, and quality metrics; participate in morbidity & mortality reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Educate patients and families on cataract treatment options, expected outcomes, and postoperative care to ensure informed consent and high patient satisfaction.
Skills & QualificationsMust-Have
  • MBBS with MS/DO/DNB in Ophthalmology or equivalent and registration with the National Medical Commission / State Medical Council.
  • Minimum 3+ years of independent cataract surgical experience post-training with documented phaco case log and outcomes.
  • Proven competency in phacoemulsification and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation for routine and complex cataracts.
  • Hands-on experience with optical biometry (IOLMaster/Lenstar) and A-scan biometry for accurate IOL calculations.
  • Proficiency in slit-lamp biomicroscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy, and anterior segment evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage intraoperative and postoperative complications with sound clinical judgment.
Preferred
  • Experience with femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) or advanced phaco platforms (e.g., Centurion, Infinity).
  • Exposure to subspecialty clinics (refractive, cornea, glaucoma) or prior consultant-level clinical practice.
  • Track record in clinical audits, quality improvement projects, or training junior surgeons and ophthalmic staff.
