A clinical role in the eye care and ophthalmology sector providing comprehensive outpatient and surgical eye services in Shimoga, Karnataka. This on-site Consultant Ophthalmologist (Phaco Surgeon) opportunity is ideal for a driven cataract surgeon who delivers high-quality surgical outcomes, leads perioperative care, and supports a multidisciplinary eye‑care team.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Perform high-volume phacoemulsification cataract surgeries with foldable IOL implantation while maintaining excellent visual outcomes and low complication rates.
  • Conduct thorough pre‑operative evaluations, surgical planning, and informed consent discussions; manage postoperative care and long‑term follow‑up.
  • Diagnose and treat anterior‑segment conditions; perform YAG laser capsulotomy and manage intra‑ and postoperative complications effectively.
  • Maintain strict OT protocols for sterilisation, infection control and instrument care; ensure documentation and surgical audit of outcomes.
  • Lead and mentor junior doctors, optometrists and nursing staff; coordinate outpatient clinics, surgical lists and community outreach/cataract‑camp initiatives as required.
  • Maintain accurate medical records in EMR, contribute to clinical governance, and participate in quality improvement and CME activities.
Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have
  • MS / DOMS in Ophthalmology with valid medical registration (state/NMC)
  • Proven hands‑on experience in phacoemulsification and IOL implantation with demonstrable surgical logbook
  • Competence in Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (SICS) and anterior‑segment procedures
  • Experience performing YAG laser capsulotomy and slit‑lamp diagnostics
  • Familiarity with OT protocols, infection control and perioperative patient management
  • Proficiency in documenting care using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and participating in clinical audits
Preferred
  • Fellowship or additional training in anterior‑segment/cataract surgery or cornea
  • Exposure to community outreach/cataract‑camp operations and public health eye programmes
  • Experience with surgical teaching, mentoring or leading small clinical teams
