Job summary

Amazon Corporate Network Engineering is seeking a Network Development Engineer to join the Core Network Engineering team responsible for LAN, WAN, and core network fabrics across corporate offices. You will collaborate with software, hardware, and security engineers to deliver scalable, cost-efficient networking solutions.

In this role you will drive automation using CDK and Python, participate in design reviews, and ensure reliable network services for Amazon’s global offices.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of IT security experience.
• 2+ years with major internet routing protocols.
• 1+ years of scripting in Python/Bash/Shell/Perl.
• 2+ years managing security products such as Firewall and VPN.
• 2+ years of experience with Cisco ISE.

Responsibilities

• Design and build innovative, multi-vendor data connectivity solutions to support Amazon’s growth worldwide.
• Drive scaling current network designs to meet the demand of our customers.
• Work with vendors and cross-functional teams for ongoing design efforts and systems support.
• Work closely with internal customers to help alleviate their problems and ensure our network continues to meet their demands.
• Drive operational excellence projects to drive improvements in network quality and reliability.

• Be responsible for automating the deployment of network infrastructure across all network fabrics that supports AWS services.
• Create and review documentation and process regarding network implementation/deployments, recurring issues, new SOPs, knowledge transfer material, etc.
• Leads design, network/code and security reviews across teams to identify risks and prevent classes of bugs prior to production release.

The Corporate Network Engineering Organization is looking for a Network Development Engineer for the Core Network Engineering team that manages LAN, WAN, Access, Aggregation, and other Core network fabrics of a Corporate Office Network, for one the worlds biggest Enterprise Network (Amazon). Network Development Engineers partner with our broader corporate network Infrastructure organization on configurations standards and tools, and collaborate with Systems and Software Engineers to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new designs and products, and also deploy and sustain networking software tools. .

Key job responsibilities

Network Development Engineers perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best practices application, optimization, internal/external customer interactions, and produce appropriate technical documentation.

A day in the life

Engineers in Corporate Network Engineering organization have a wide range of responsibilities: we work with internal partners to develop and implement the next gen platforms along with the tooling ecosystems to support with these platforms driving efficiency and scalability through the automation of builds, configuration deployment, and the scaling of capacity. As our network is one of the largest in the world, there is no blue print at our scale allowing our engineers to develop solutions to the complex challenges that we face daily. We encourage durable solutions that look around corners while taking into consideration our customer needs from a cost, performance, and reliability perspective. Our team develops tooling that provides the required visibility and control of traffic across the network, while prioritizing the automatic mitigation of events to minimize the impact to our customers.

• Work in a 24x7 team on call rotation, with ability to drive into workplace for critical events/needs.
• Manage customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
• Sit at the computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.

About the team

As a part of Amazon Corporate Network Automation, we are responsible for Edge Network which connects 500+ remote offices to the Core network as well as into AWS cloud. We own the network standards, deployment mechanisms, automation and delivery of large programs, including AWS VPC transit gateway based networks that connect our traditional networks to Native AWS.

We also own writing the automation for automatic deployment of configuration and Operating systems to scale of 10k's of devices in the Enterprise network.

Basic Qualifications

• 2+ years of IT Security experience
• 2+ years of major internet routing protocols experience

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience
• 2+ year experience in managing security products such as Firewall, and VPN
• 2+ years of experience on Cisco Security products such as ISE
