Job summary

Chris Johnson is seeking an experienced MySQL Database Developer/Administrator to optimize large databases, tune queries, and ensure data integrity in AWS RDS environments. The role requires hands-on Linux experience, backup/recovery, and strong problem-solving skills.

The ideal candidate will design indexing strategies, monitor performance, and collaborate with developers to maintain reliable cloud-based databases. Prior AWS RDS and PL/SQL/MySQL expertise are essential.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years experience with PL/SQL (Oracle) or MySQL database development.
• Proven expertise in database optimization and performance tuning.
• Experience with complex SQL query troubleshooting.
• Strong knowledge of indexing, execution plans, joins, and schema optimization.
• Data archival, purging, and managing large data volumes.
• Hands-on AWS cloud services experience, especially Amazon RDS.
• Experience with database monitoring, backup/recovery, high availability, and maintenance.
• Working knowledge of Linux OS, command-line utilities, shell scripting, and log analysis.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for critical DB issues.
• Ability to work independently and support production environments when required.

Responsibilities

About the role:

We are looking for an experienced MySQL Database Developer/Administrator with strong expertise in database performance optimization, query tuning, troubleshooting, data archival, and indexing. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience managing databases in AWS cloud environments, particularly Amazon RDS, along with working knowledge of Linux operating systems.

Role & responsibilities:

• Develop, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and database scripts using PL/SQL or MySQL.
• Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, execution plan analysis, and bottleneck identification.
• Troubleshoot database performance issues, locking, blocking, deadlocks, and connectivity problems.
• Design, implement, and maintain effective table indexing strategies to improve query performance.
• Plan and implement data archival, purging, and retention strategies for large databases.
• Monitor database health, resource utilization, storage capacity, and performance metrics.
• Manage and maintain AWS database environments, particularly Amazon RDS, including configuration, monitoring, backups, restoration, and maintenance.
• Work with Linux operating systems to execute database-related commands, shell scripts, log analysis, and troubleshooting.
• Perform database backup and recovery operations and support disaster recovery procedures.
• Ensure data integrity, security, availability, and adherence to database best practices.
• Collaborate with application developers and infrastructure teams to resolve production database issues.
• Document database configurations, optimization activities, troubleshooting procedures, and operational processes.

Preferred candidate profile:

• 3-5 years experience with PL/SQL (Oracle) or MySQL database development.
• Proven expertise in database optimization, performance tuning, and complex SQL query troubleshooting.
• Strong knowledge of table indexing, execution plans, joins, partitions, and database schema optimization.
• Practical experience in data archival, purging, and managing large volumes of data.
• Hands-on knowledge of AWS cloud services, particularly Amazon RDS.
• Experience with database monitoring, backup and recovery, high availability, and database maintenance.
• Working knowledge of Linux OS, command-line utilities, shell scripting, and log analysis.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve critical database issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with AWS CloudWatch, automated backups, snapshots, and RDS performance monitoring.
• Knowledge of database migration, replication, partitioning, and disaster recovery.
• Experience with database security, access management, and performance monitoring tools.
• Exposure to production support, incident management, and SLA-based environments.
