Job summary

Panasonic Avionics Corporation is hiring a senior Hybrid SDET to own automation from design to execution, focusing on API management and configuration services. You will develop Python-based tests, validate REST APIs, and integrate testing into GitLab CI/CD to ensure release readiness.

You will work across APIM and PCS, collaborating with developers and product teams to improve testability, coverage, and release confidence in a hybrid environment in India.

The Position

We are hiring a senior Hybrid SDET within Platform Engineering, supporting two products: API Management (APIM) and Platform Configuration Services (PCS). The role is focused on development-quality test automation, backend/API validation, and CI/CD integration. The successful candidate will own automation from design through execution and contribute to product-quality engineering and release confidence.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and review Python/PyTest-based automation for REST APIs, service workflows, smoke tests, regression tests, and release-critical scenarios.
• Build and maintain reusable automation utilities, test definitions, markers, test data strategies, and framework components.
• Integrate automated testing into GitLab CI/CD, including pipeline triggers, scheduled/manual execution, and branch-level validation.
• Validate REST APIs, including OpenAPI contracts, authentication, health/readiness/liveness endpoints, logging, metrics, and performance-sensitive workflows.
• Support release validation, test-cycle preparation, JAMA traceability, test reviews, and release evidence collection.
• Troubleshoot automation failures across code, data, pipelines, runners, racks, environments, loadables, and service-health layers.
• Partner closely with developers and product teams to understand API behavior, diagnose failures, improve testability, and strengthen regression coverage.
• Work across both APIM and PCS products, contributing to a collaborative, product-focused engineering environment.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong hands-on experience with Python and PyTest, including fixtures, markers, assertions, parameterization, reusable utilities, and maintainable test code.
• Experience owning automation frameworks from design through execution, rather than only executing existing scripts.
• Strong experience in REST/API automation, including HTTP status validation, JSON validation, authentication flows, health checks, and negative scenarios.
• Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD, including .gitlab-ci.yml, runners, pipeline variables, scheduled pipelines, branch validation, and smoke/regression tags.
• Experience with SSH, Python virtual environments, Docker, and rack/environment-specific test execution.
• Strong understanding of software quality processes, including JAMA linkage, test case reviews, release evidence, defect analysis, and regression coverage.
• Experience as a Senior SDET, Backend Test Automation Engineer, or Software Engineer with strong automation ownership.
• Ability to understand backend/API behavior, service interactions, deployment/runtime constraints, observability, and release risks.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose issues across application, infrastructure, pipeline, and environment layers.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with developers, product owners, release stakeholders, and engineering managers.

Qualifications

Experience: 6–8 years

• The ideal candidate would have a strong combination of software development and test automation experience, rather than being focused exclusively on automation testing.
• Hands-on Pytest experience is mandatory and will be one of the key screening criteria.
• Candidates with a development-first background who are also comfortable taking ownership of automation testing will be preferred.
• Automation testing can be considered secondary to development, provided the candidate has solid development experience and hands-on experience with Pytest.
• Candidates with experience across Golang/Node.js, React, AWS, DevOps, and AI will be considered stronger profiles.

Good To Have

• Experience with API Management/API Gateway concepts such as gateway routing, authentication, policy handling, configuration synchronization, OpenAPI/OAS, JWT, mTLS, and gateway health.
• Experience validating logs, metrics, dashboards, alerts, and service health, including Prometheus-style metrics.
• Performance testing experience using JMeter, k6, or similar tools.
• Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and AWS.
• Working knowledge of Go, Java, or backend service code, with the ability to read product code and improve automation coverage.
