Job summary

Tech Mahindra in Pune seeks a hands-on SDET to own quality for mobile banking apps across Android and iOS. You will build and maintain mobile automation, drive testing across the full lifecycle, and help ship secure financial features at speed.

Required 4+ years in test automation, with 2+ years mobile automation. Proficiency in Appium, WebdriverIO/Playwright, and TypeScript/JavaScript is essential; collaboration in a cross-functional squad is expected.

Qualifications

• 4+ years hands-on experience in test automation with at least 2 years mobile automation.
• Appium: strong experience automating Android and iOS apps.
• WebdriverIO or Playwright: hands-on experience.
• TypeScript / JavaScript: strong programming skills, including async/await and clean code.
• Framework design with Page Object Model or similar patterns.
• STLC: solid understanding of test lifecycle and techniques.
• Defect management: clear bug reports and defect lifecycle ownership.
• Jira & TestRail/Zephyr/Xray/qTest for test management.
• API testing: code-based tools (Axios/SuperTest) and Postman familiarity.
• Git & CI/CD: pipelines in GitHub Actions/Jenkins/GitLab CI.
• Mobile testing know-how: gestures, permissions, network conditions, fragmentation.
• Agile: experience in Agile/Scrum.
• Communication: clear written and verbal English.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable mobile automation frameworks using WebdriverIO or Playwright with Appium and TypeScript.
• Automate functional, regression, and smoke suites for Android and iOS apps and integrate into CI/CD pipelines.
• Write API tests to validate backend services powering the mobile app.
• Participate in every STLC phase: requirement analysis, test planning, test design, execution, defect reporting, and test closure.
• Review user stories and acceptance criteria early in the sprint to catch gaps and testability issues.
• Log, track, triage, and retest defects in Jira with clear reproduction steps and evidence.
• Maintain test cases, test runs, and traceability in TestRail or equivalent.
• Run tests on real devices and cloud device farms; analyze failures across OS versions.
• Report quality metrics such as automation coverage and defect trends to the squad.
• Collaborate with developers on unit/integration test coverage and promote shift-left quality.

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on SDET to own quality for our mobile banking and payments apps across Android and iOS. You will work inside a cross-functional squad with developers, product owners, and designers. You will build and maintain mobile automation, drive testing across the full test lifecycle, and help us ship secure, reliable financial features at speed.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable mobile automation frameworks using WebdriverIO or Playwright with Appium and TypeScript.
• Automate functional, regression, and smoke suites for Android and iOS apps, and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.
• Write API tests to validate backend services that power the mobile app, including payments, onboarding, and account flows.
• Participate in every STLC phase: requirement analysis, test planning, test design, execution, defect reporting, and test closure.
• Review user stories and acceptance criteria early in the sprint to catch gaps, edge cases, and testability issues.
• Log, track, triage, and retest defects in Jira with clear reproduction steps, severity, priority, and evidence.
• Maintain test cases, test runs, and traceability in TestRail or an equivalent test management tool.
• Run tests on real devices and cloud device farms, and analyse failures across OS versions and device models.
• Report quality metrics such as automation coverage, pass rates, flaky tests, and defect trends to the squad.
• Collaborate with developers on unit and integration test coverage, and promote a shift-left quality mindset.

Must Have

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in test automation, with at least 2 years on mobile app automation.
• Appium: strong experience automating Android and iOS apps (native and/or hybrid).
• WebdriverIO or Playwright: hands-on experience using either as the automation framework.
• TypeScript / JavaScript (Node.js): strong programming skills, including async/await, OOP, and clean code practices.
• Framework design: experience with Page Object Model or a similar pattern, reusable components, and config-driven execution.
• STLC: solid understanding of the test lifecycle, test design techniques (boundary value, equivalence partitioning, decision tables), and test types (functional, regression, smoke, sanity).
• Defect management: proven experience writing clear bug reports, defining severity vs. priority, running triage, and owning the defect lifecycle.
• Jira & test management: working knowledge of Jira for stories and defects, and TestRail (or Zephyr, Xray, qTest) for test case management.
• API testing: experience with a code-based tool (Axios, SuperTest, or similar) and familiarity with Postman.
• Git & CI/CD: experience running automation in pipelines such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
• Mobile testing know-how: gestures, permissions, interruptions, network conditions, app install/upgrade, and device fragmentation.
• Agile: experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
• Communication: clear written and verbal communication in English.

Nice to Have

• Fintech or banking domain experience, such as payments, wallets, KYC/onboarding, card management, or transaction flows.
• Fintech quality awareness: data accuracy, transaction integrity, audit trails, and regulatory compliance.
• Cloud device farms such as LambdaTest, BrowserStack, or Sauce Labs.
• Test runners & reporting: Mocha or Jest, and reporting tools like Allure.
• Mobile performance testing: app launch time, memory, battery, and network usage.
• Tool integration: pushing CI test results into TestRail via APIs.
• Debugging tools: Android Studio, Xcode, ADB, and device logs.
• SQL for backend data validation.
• Contract testing / mocking: Pact, WireMock, MSW, or similar.
• AI-assisted testing tools for test generation, self-healing locators, or failure analysis.
