Job summary

Lonza is seeking a Microbiologist to support the QC Microbiology Laboratory, performing microbiological testing, environmental monitoring, data review, and quality system activities to ensure GMP/GLP compliance and audit readiness. You will collaborate with Manufacturing, QA, EHS, and Supply Chain to maintain data integrity and drive continuous improvement in microbiological processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field.
  • Experience in a Quality Control Microbiology laboratory within pharmaceutical/healthcare/life sciences environments.
  • Strong knowledge of microbiological testing techniques, environmental monitoring, and microbial identification.
  • Understanding of GMP, GLP, data integrity requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Experience handling laboratory quality systems including deviations, CAPAs, change controls, and audit support.

Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological analysis of raw materials, finished products, water samples, and packaging materials per procedures.
  • Execute environmental monitoring activities for manufacturing areas and labs, including trend analysis and reporting.
  • Prepare microbiological media and perform Growth Promotion Testing (GPT) to support testing.
  • Review, interpret, and document microbiological test results ensuring data integrity and GMP/GLP compliance.
  • Support laboratory investigations including deviations, OOS/OOT events, change controls, CAPAs, and annual product quality reviews.
  • Conduct microbial identification activities and assist in investigations of excursions.
  • Participate in qualification, validation, calibration, and routine verification of lab equipment and systems.

Job description

The role is responsible for ensuring timely testing and release support for raw materials, finished products, water systems, and packaging materials while maintaining laboratory excellence and audit readiness.

Working at the intersection of quality, compliance, and laboratory operations, you will collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Engineering, EHS, and Supply Chain teams to ensure product quality, data integrity, and continuous improvement across microbiological processes.

What you will do

Support laboratory investigations including deviations, OOS/OOT events, change controls, CAPAs, and annual product quality reviews.

Conduct microbial identification activities and support investigation of environmental and product-related microbiological excursions.

Participate in qualification, validation, calibration, and routine verification of microbiology laboratory equipment, methods, AHUs, and LAF systems.

What we are looking for

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.

Experience in a Quality Control Microbiology laboratory within the pharmaceutical, healthcare, life sciences, or regulated manufacturing industry.

Strong knowledge of microbiological testing techniques, environmental monitoring, water testing, microbial identification, and aseptic laboratory practices.

Understanding of GMP, GLP, data integrity requirements, and applicable regulatory guidelines.

Experience handling laboratory quality systems including deviations, CAPAs, change controls, OOS/OOT investigations, and audit support.

Familiarity with qualification, validation, calibration, and maintenance of microbiology laboratory equipment and systems.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and data review capabilities.
