Job summary

Jobtailor in India seeks an embedded software engineer to design real‑time firmware and related PC/mobile software. You will analyze requirements, participate in system and software design, and implement and test across the development lifecycle.

You will work with Linux kernel drivers, Yocto/Buildroot, and various debugging tools on multiple embedded CPUs, contributing to robust, well‑documented software solutions.

Qualifications

• Experience with Linux kernel programming and device drivers.
• Familiarity with Yocto/Buildroot or similar build systems.
• Experience with debugging tools such as oscilloscope and protocol analysers.
• Experience with multiple embedded processors (Qualcomm/TI/NXP/NVIDIA/Intel or similar).
• Understanding of hardware schematics and component datasheets to derive firmware solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design and development of real‑time embedded software/firmware and PC/mobile apps.
• Analyze domain requirements and modify per end customer or system needs.
• Participate in high and low level software design.
• Perform unit, functional and system level testing including manual and automated tests.
• Ensure traceability from requirements to design to coding to testing.
• Review code following guidelines and perform static analysis.
• Troubleshoot software problems of limited difficulty.
• Document deliverables like specs, design docs, code comments, tests, release notes.
• Adhere to defined software development life cycle processes.
• Develop software from established languages or learn new ones as needed.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for design and development of real‑time embedded software/firmware and PC/mobile based software application.
• To analyse domain specific technical or low level requirement and modification as per end customer or system requirement.
• Participate in high level and low level software design.
• Perform software testing including unit, functional and system level requirements including manual and automated.
• Perform software requirement to design to coding to testing traceability.
• Perform code review following coding guidelines and static code analysis.
• Troubleshoot software problems of limited difficulty.
• Document technical deliverables such as software specifications, design documents, code comments, test cases and test reports, release notes, etc. throughout the project lifecycle.
• Follow defined processes for software development life cycle.
• Develop software solutions from established programming languages or by learning new language required for specific project.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of Linux device drivers, Linux Kernel programming, Linux Kernel internals, Yocto / Buildroot or any other build systems.
• Experience working with development tools such as oscilloscope, protocol analyser, emulator, signal generator, JTAG programmer, GIT, SVN, JIRA.
• Experience working with different embedded microprocessors based on Qualcomm, TI, NXP, NVIDIA, Intel or similar.
• Experience with board support package, device driver and boot loader development/porting.
• Understanding of hardware schematic, datasheet of hardware component to derive firmware/software specific solution.
