Generac Power Systems seeks a Mechanical Test Fixture Engineer to design and validate fixtures for PCBAs, full-system tests, and reliability datasets. You will create 3D models, BOMs, and assembly docs, while coordinating with test software and electrical teams to ensure robust, safe tooling in high‑volume production.
Candidate should have a ME degree and strong CAD skills (SolidWorks/Creo), with experience in tolerance analysis, GD&T, and supplier engagement.
Over the 60 plus years of Generac’s history, we’ve been dedicated to energy innovation. From creating the home standby generator market category, to our current evolution into an energy technology solutions company, we continue to push new boundaries.
This role focuses on designing the mechanical test fixtures and tooling that support manufacturing test equipment across PCBAs, full-system EOL testing, reliability test setups, and automated validation systems.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent)
Experience with tolerance analysis and GD&T
Familiarity with high-volume manufacturing environments and supplier management
Design mechanical test fixtures and tooling for manufacturing test equipment supporting PCBAs, full-system EOL testing, reliability setups, and automated validation testers
Develop fixture architectures that prioritize reliability, repeatability, maintainability, and operator safety in high-volume production environments
Create detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation using CAD tools
Generate RFQs and manage vendor engagement for mechanical fixture fabrication, balancing cost, quality, lead time, and long‑term serviceability
Collaborate closely with test software, electrical design, manufacturing, and technician teams to ensure fixtures meet all functional and operational requirements
Support prototype builds, hands‑on debug, and iterative improvement of fixtures during development and production ramp phases
Validate fixture designs through testing, tolerance analysis, and failure mode considerations to ensure long‑term durability and uptime
Drive design improvements to reduce changeover time, simplify maintenance, and improve ergonomics and throughput
Support deployment of test fixtures to manufacturing sites and contract manufacturers, including on‑site support as needed
Maintain thorough documentation for designs, revisions, and lessons learned in alignment with internal standards and best practices
Identify cost reduction opportunities through design simplification, part standardization, and supplier optimization
