Impact In This Role

Your role as a Manufacturing Engineer is to support and improve our manufacturing functions. You will work at the interface between our builders—who order parts—and our manufacturing partners—who produce them. You will play a critical role in creating the world’s premier platform for hardware manufacturing.

You will review and analyze manufacturability and costs related to CNC machining, using your Mechanical Engineering background to recommend design changes to meet customer needs. Your efforts will help bring products to market faster across various industries and accelerate Fictiv’s growth.

You will report to the Costing and DFM lead.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Review packages to determine scope, feasibility, and lead times
  • Define suitable manufacturing processes, machine selection, cycle times, and setup costs
  • Generate cost estimates using in-house calculators and software
  • Scrutinize quotes from manufacturing partners for cost optimization
  • Negotiate with partners to achieve competitive pricing
  • Understand secondary processes like anodizing, plating, and coatings
  • Prepare RFQ packages for partners based on capability and capacity
  • Develop cost calculators based on process expertise
  • Review 3D models and 2D prints for manufacturability and suggest design changes
  • Provide feedback to improve automated quoting software
  • Develop packaging concepts and collaborate with logistics on shipping costs
  • Follow up on RFQ feedback and communicate with partners
  • Participate in project validation, risk reduction, and documentation
  • Handle assembly product structures
  • Engage in manufacturing partner QBRs to address cost and efficiency issues

Qualifications:

  • 6-8 years relevant experience
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Self-starter with effective time management
  • Enjoy sharing manufacturing knowledge
  • 4-year Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Proficiency in 3D and 2D review and proofreading
  • Experience with 3-5 axis milling, turning, grinding, gear hobbing, EDM, gun drilling
  • Strong GD&T skills
  • Knowledge of CNC machine specifications and programming
  • Understanding of materials, heat treatment, secondary processes, and standards
  • Familiarity with inspection methods, PPAP, ISO 9001, and AS9100D standards
  • Training in cutting tools and production costing
