Job summary

Okta in Bengaluru is seeking a seasoned leader to architect and scale our internal developer platform, spanning CI/CD, tooling, and IaC integrations. You will drive automation, mentor SWE & SRE teams, and partner with stakeholders to balance reliability, security, and delivery velocity.

The role demands hands-on experience with large-scale production Java/Tomcat services on AWS, strong CI/CD practices, Linux fundamentals, and a platform-as-product mindset to reduce cognitive load and boost

Qualifications

• Proven track record of building and scaling internal developer platforms (IDP)
• Deep experience in SRE tooling for automated CI/CD and IaC provisioning
• History of moving teams from toil-heavy to automated workflows in cloud environments
• Willing to go the extra mile and mentor peers
• Experience managing teams with production Java/Tomcat and containerized services on AWS
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD, Linux, OS hardening, networking, and IP protocols

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design and rollout of the internal developer platform (CI/CD, tooling, IaC integrations)
• Enhance automation for fleet management and build new features for the infra platform
• Spearhead initiatives to improve engineer productivity by removing bottlenecks
• Mentor, manage, and lead SWE & SRE teams with diverse expertise
• Triaging and troubleshooting production issues to ensure reliability and performance
• Collaborate with stakeholders to align capabilities with reliability, security and velocity
• Partner with recruiting to hire and retain top talent worldwide
• Monitor metrics like vulnerability scanning, cloud spend, RPO/RTO, toil; push improvements
• Participate in 24x7 on-call rotations

You will work on:

• Leading the architecture, design and rollout of the internal developer platform which would span CI/CD, tooling, infrastructure as code (IAC) integrations as well as modernization efforts
• Enhance existing automation for fleet management and build new features as per the needs of the infrastructure platform
• Spearhead initiatives and projects that enhance engineer productivity by identifying and mitigating bottlenecks in the development flow
• Mentoring, managing, and leading a team of SWEs & SREs with a broad range of expertise and experience
• Triaging and troubleshooting complex production issues to ensure reliability and performance.
• Working closely with our stakeholders across the organization to ensure our new capabilities are aligned to our competing constraints of reliability, security, and delivery velocity
• Partnering directly with recruiting and people ops to hire and retain the best talent in the world
• Keep sharp eyes on our metrics, including vulnerability scanning and security posture, cloud spend, RPO and RTO, and toil overhead, and ensure our projects are driving our metrics in the right direction
• Supporting a 24x7 online environment as part of an on-call rotation

You are an ideal candidate if you:

• Platform-as-Product Mindset: Proven track record of building and scaling internal developer platforms (IDP) that treat internal engineering teams as customers, focusing on reducing cognitive load and improving developer velocity.
• Engineering Excellence in Tooling: Deep experience in the "Software" part of SRE—leading teams to build robust, automated tooling for CI/CD orchestration, Kubernetes operators, or self-service infrastructure provisioning (IaC).
• Automation First: A history of transitioning teams from manual "toil-heavy" operations to automated, code-driven workflows that interact safely with high-scale cloud production environments.
• Are always willing to go the extra mile: see a problem, fix the problem.
• Are passionate about encouraging the development of engineering peers and leading by example
• Have experience managing teams running large-scale production Java/Tomcat and containerized services in AWS (EC2, ECS, KMS, Kinesis, RDS) or other cloud providers.
• Have deep knowledge of CI/CD principles, Linux fundamentals, OS hardening, networking concepts, and IP protocols.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Qualities:

• 3+ years of experience managing SWE or SRE teams, ideally in a cloud native environment.
• Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
• Strong security background and knowledge.
• BS In computer science (or equivalent experience).
