Job summary

Zebra Technologies in Bengaluru offers a leadership role in Electrical Engineering, guiding a design team to develop and debug hardware and software for products and customers. You will coordinate with software groups and manufacturing, manage testing and documentation, and drive cross‑functional initiatives in a hybrid work setup.

Ideal candidates bring 8–10 years in electrical design with 5 years of management experience, plus VHDL, Windows/UNIX knowledge, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering is required. MS preferred.
• 8-10 years electrical design experience, 5 years management experience.
• VHDL design experience desired.
• Knowledge of Windows, MS DOS, UNIX, and other OS is required.
• Knowledge of C, C++ helpful.
• Familiarity with design analysis and simulation tools; scheduling software like Microsoft Project desired.
• Strong communication skills are also required.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands‑on leadership and direction to the Electrical Engineering group, overseeing design, debugging hardware and software for products.
• Oversee staffing, training, and supervision of engineers and technicians, ensuring schedules and quality standards are met.
• Monitor performance and collaborate with engineering to create electrical design solutions.
• Lead root cause analysis and drive product enhancements across hardware/software/mechanical domains.
• Identify technologies to enhance and cost‑reduce designs.
• Write test procedures enabling DVT verification of requirements.
• Ensure designs meet Zebra quality standards and are cost‑effective.
• Maintain project schedules and report status, issues, and progress.
• Collaborate with customers, Sales, Marketing to translate requirements into solutions.
• Coordinate with Quality, Service and Manufacturing to deliver and maintain products.
• Participate in company initiatives and maintain department budget.
• Engage in design reviews.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What Were Looking For:

1. Provide hands‑on leadership and direction to the Electrical Engineering group. Direct electrical design development and debug hardware and software for products and customers. Maintain existing electrical designs and coordinate efforts with the software group. Manage design documentation, support internal resources such as manufacturing engineering with testing, assembly and production. Provide Product Management and Project Management with direction by identifying relevant technology and implementing this technology to satisfy design requirements.
2. Oversees staffing, training and supervision of engineers and or technicians to include: policy interpretation and enforcement, workload distribution, assists with performance evaluations and managing employee relations while ensuring engineering schedules, customer needs and quality standards are met in a timely fashion.
3. Monitor performance and work with other members of the engineering department to create electrical design solutions that meet company directions and customer requirements.
4. Provide leadership to solve problems through utilization of comprehensive root cause analysis techniques. Make product enhancements by recommending and implementing hardware, software, mechanical, or other techniques. Recommend and implement new hardware and software design platforms, architecture, and utilities to achieve strategic company goals.
5. Identify relevant technology to facilitate maintenance/enhancement of existing/new designs.
6. Identify new technologies to enhance and cost‑reduce product.
7. Write clear, concise and thorough test procedures, so DVT technician(s) are enabled to verify that the design satisfies all product requirements.
8. Ensure designs and processes satisfy Zebras quality standards, and are implemented in a timely and cost effective manner.
9. Create and maintain project schedules and report on project status, activities and issues.
10. Work with customers, other engineers, Sales and Marketing to understand project or customer requirements and translate these into solutions.
11. Work with Quality, Service and Manufacturing organizations to ensure that Zebra products are delivered and maintained to the highest standards possible.
12. Participate in definition and implementation of Company directed initiatives to help meet corporate objectives.
13. Maintain department budget that is aligned with strategic business goals.
14. Participate in design review meetings.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
