We are looking for a skilled Mainframe System Engineer to join our team and support an exciting migration initiative. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in modernizing our mainframe infrastructure, working closely with various teams to ensure a successful and seamless transition. This role offers an opportunity to work on a large-scale project, utilizing your expertise in mainframe technologies and cloud platforms.
- Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the existing z/OS infrastructure and operational environment.
- Inventory and analyze CPCs, LPARs, Sysplex, storage, network, and middleware components, identifying migration risks and dependencies.
- Support the definition of migration strategy and workload classification, participating in target-state infrastructure design.
- Assist in defining HA/DR, backup, and recovery requirements, and develop migration runbooks and cutover plans.
- Coordinate the migration of z/OS, CICS, VSAM, MQ, Connect:Direct, FTP/SFTP, VTAM/TCPIP, and scheduling tools, ensuring system configurations are validated.
- Develop operational support documentation, including SOPs and monitoring procedures, and conduct knowledge transfer sessions.
- Support Hypercare and post-production stabilization, ensuring a smooth transition of migrated services to AMS/Operations teams.
- Collaborate with infrastructure architects, application teams, middleware specialists, cloud engineers, and business stakeholders throughout the migration process.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in mainframe technologies and cloud platforms, especially AWS, to ensure optimal migration strategies.
- 8-12 years of experience in Mainframe Infrastructure Engineering, with a minimum of 3 years supporting Mainframe Migration or Modernization programs.
- Strong expertise in IBM z/OS, JES2/JES3, Sysplex, SDSF, TSO/ISPF, RACF, DFSMS, DFHSM, Tape Management, DASD Administration, GDG Management, TCP/IP, VTAM, Enterprise Extender, FTP/SFTP, SSL/TLS, IBM MQ, CICS, Connect:Direct, and WebSphere Application Server.
- Experience with SMF, RMF, OMEGAMON, CA SYSVIEW, System Automation, NetView, REXX, JCL, CLIST, Python, and ZOAU is preferred.
- Familiarity with AWS, DevOps Tools, Terraform, and Ansible is an advantage, especially for Mainframe to AWS migration projects and AWS Blu Age modernization programs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a methodical approach to assessing and resolving complex infrastructure issues.
- Experience in managing high-availability production environments, ensuring minimal downtime during migration processes.
- A proactive and self-motivated attitude, with a passion for staying updated with the latest advancements in mainframe and cloud technologies.
- A proven track record of successful mainframe migration or modernization projects, demonstrating effective planning, execution, and transition strategies.
- A willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies, ensuring a smooth and efficient migration process.
