Job summary

Kyndryl is seeking a Mainframe Storage Administrator to manage IBM mainframe storage, DASD, tape libraries, and Virtual Tape Systems (VTS) across enterprise environments. You will configure DFSMS/DFHSM, optimize storage performance, and support backup, restore, and disaster recovery.

You’ll work with IBM z/OS storage teams, RMF/SMF reporting, ZARA administration, and 24x7 production incident resolution, ensuring data integrity and availability.

The Role

As a Mainframe Storage Administrator at Kyndryl, you’ll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You’ll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients – which means some of the biggest in the world. There’s never a typical day as a System Administrator at Kyndryl, because no two projects are alike. You’ll be managing systems data for clients and providing day‑to‑day solutions and security compliance. You’ll oversee a queue of assignments and work directly with technicians, prioritizing tickets to deliver the best solutions to our clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain IBM Mainframe storage infrastructure, including DASD, tape libraries, and Virtual Tape Systems (VTS).
• Manage and support Rocket ZARA Tape Management environment, including tape lifecycle management, retention policies, and inventory control.
• Configure, monitor, and optimize DFSMS, DFHSM, SMS‑managed storage, and related z/OS storage components.
• Perform storage capacity planning, utilization analysis, performance tuning, and forecasting to ensure optimal resource availability.
• Support backup, recovery, archive, and disaster recovery processes for critical enterprise workloads.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• 6 to 8 years of hands‑on experience in IBM Mainframe Infrastructure and Storage Administration within enterprise production environments.
• Strong expertise in IBM z/OS administration, including system storage management and performance optimization.
• Extensive experience with DFSMS, SMS, DFHSM, DASD administration, and ICF Catalog management.
• Proven experience managing backup, restore, migration, archive, and recovery operations across large‑scale mainframe environments.
• Strong knowledge of Virtual Tape Systems (VTS), tape operations, and Rocket ZARA administration.
• Experience troubleshooting storage, tape management, catalog, and backup/recovery‑related incidents in 24x7 production environments.

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

• Experience administering IBM DS8000 enterprise storage systems in complex mainframe environments.
• Knowledge of CA1, RMM, or other mainframe tape management solutions.
• Hands‑on experience with RMF/SMF reporting and OMEGAMON monitoring for storage performance analysis.
• Familiarity with storage security, encryption technologies, and key management practices.
• Experience developing automation scripts using REXX, JCL, or other mainframe scripting tools.
• Understanding of Disaster Recovery (DR) planning, execution, and recovery validation exercises.
