Job summary

Barclays in Chennai is seeking a Mainframe Infrastructure Engineer to drive the evolution of our digital landscape. You will work with z Series, VTAM, TCPIP, and related technologies to ensure reliable, scalable infrastructure and secure data transfers.

The role requires strong networking knowledge, on‑call support, and collaboration with product managers and engineers to deliver robust IT infrastructure from Chennai, with exposure to NetView, NPM, CA‑TPX, and related tools.

Qualifications

  • Configure, debug and maintain TCPIP and VTAM subsystems configurations.
  • Strong years of experience as IBM Mainframe Network specialist (z Series) with z/os communication server.
  • Knowledge of all products using SNA & IP (DB2, CICS, TSO/ISPF, Netview, Connect: Direct, JES2)
  • Configure and implement AT‑TLS rules
  • Configure and implement IPSEC policies
  • Configure and implement DDVIPA setup
  • Secure Encrypted data transfers (NDM, SFTP and FTP/TLS)
  • Tcpi trace analysis – IP, Socket, OSA adapter, SNA, EE
  • Very good understanding of network related technologies (routing, protocols, IPv4, IPv6, etc)
  • Installation, upgrade and maintenance of VTAM, TCPIP, OSA
  • Strong Networking knowledge/troubleshooting experience.
  • To support 24/7 Oncall support
  • Skills in Printers configuration, FTP, SMTP, SNMP configurations
  • Network management software (includes NetView and NPM)
  • File transfer software (includes TCP/IP FTP, Netview FTP and Connect: Direct)
  • Session Management software (CA-TPX)
  • Printing software ESF

Responsibilities

  • Build Engineering: Development, delivery, and maintenance of high‑quality infrastructure solutions to fulfil business requirements ensuring measurable reliability, performance, availability, and ease of use.
  • Incident Management: Monitoring of IT infrastructure and system performance to measure, identify, address, and resolve any potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages.
  • Automation: Development and implementation of automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention, utilising software scripting/coding disciplines.
  • Security: Implementation of a secure configuration and measures to protect infrastructure against cyber‑attacks, vulnerabilities, and other security threats.
  • Teamwork: Cross‑functional collaboration with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define IT Infrastructure requirements, devise solutions, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives via a data driven approach.
  • Learning: Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

To be successful as a Mainframe Infrastructure Engineer you should have experience with:

Basic / Essential Qualifications

  • Performance evaluation using SMF statistic data for mainframe network.

This role will be based out of Chennai.

Purpose of the Role

To build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, using hardware, software, networks, and cloud computing platforms as required with the aim of ensuring that the infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and secure. Ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology through the application of software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response.
