Job summary

Kyndryl is seeking a seasoned Mainframe DB2 System Programmer SME to solve complex issues across IBM DB2 z/OS platforms and related services. You will work with IBM and other vendors on defects, configure SYSPLEX data-sharing, and perform problem analysis to ensure reliable DB2 subsystems.

Requirements include 7+ years of IBM System Z and 5+ years of IBM DB2 experience, with strong knowledge of SMP/E, RACF/ACF2/TopSecret security, and DR/backups.

Qualifications

• IBM System Z experience with SMP/E and database management plus performance optimization using IBM, BMC, and Broadcom toolsets.
• Remote client/application connectivity via DDF/DRDA integrated with RACF/ACF2/TopSecret.
• Storage, DR and architecture including DASD replication, z/OS storage management, and Coupling Facility.
• 5+ years IBM DB2 experience with memory structures, buffer pools, and DB2 internal components.
• Data sharing, logging and availability including sysplex management, backup, recovery, and logging strategies.
• Concurrency and performance diagnostics including lock/latch contention management and IFCID tracing.
• Ability to perform problem determination and analysis, even under pressure.
• Analytical thinking and outside-the-box problem solving in critical situations.

Responsibilities

• Install/maintain IBM DB2 z/OS software and related 3rd‑party products via SMP/E.
• Coordinate with IBM and vendors to address defects and usage questions.
• Configure DB2 groups and subsystems in SYSPLEX data‑sharing environment.
• Perform problem analysis and resolution for mainframe DB2 issues.
• Tune performance and capacity of system parameters and resources.
• Maintain DB2 Catalog, Directory and other DB2 system objects.
• Ensure DB2 subsystem availability, backup, and recovery procedures, including DR tests.
• Document policies and procedures; provide secondary support to DBA staff on DB2 issues.
• Support security services for DB2 subsystem access and operations.

The Role

As a Mainframe DB2 System Programmer SME at Kyndryl, you’ll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services.

Responsibilities include:

• Installation/maintenance of IBM DB2 z/OS software and related 3rd‑party products utilizing SMP/E.


• This includes working with IBM and other vendors to address product defects, issues, and usage questions.


• Configuration of DB2 groups and subsystems in SYSPLEX data‑sharing environment, supporting mainframe DB2 applications.


• Perform problem analysis and resolution for mainframe DB2 system related issues.


• Performance and capacity tuning of system parameters and resources, utilizing various monitoring and reporting tools.


• Currently a separate team (PCM) handles this at Kyndryl.


• Responsible for the DB2 subsystem availability, backup and recovery strategies and procedures.


• DR tests.


• Maintain the DB2 Catalog, Directory and other DB2 system objects.


• Documentation of policies and procedures.


• Provide secondary support for the DBA staff on DB2 subsystem issues.


• Security services in regards to systems support role for DB2.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• 7+ years IBM System Z experience and concepts, with considerable knowledge in the following: Administration & tooling: software installation via SMP/E, along with database management and performance optimization using IBM, BMC, and Broadcom toolsets.


• Distributed access & security: remote client/application connectivity via DDF and DRDA, integrated with RACF, ACF2, or TopSecret access control.


• Storage, DR & architecture: FLASH copy, DASD replication, DB2 forward recovery, z/OS storage management, Coupling Facility, networking (TCP/IP, SNA), WLM, and USS.


• 5+ years IBM DB2 experience, with advanced knowledge in the following: Memory & internal structures: buffer pools, page and tablespace layouts, and DB2 internal components (EDM pool, RIDs).


• Data sharing, logging & availability: data sharing sysplex management, ZPARMS configuration, and backup, recovery, and logging strategies.


• Concurrency & performance diagnostics: lock/latch contention management, IFCID tracing, and performance monitoring.


• Experience in problem determination and analysis.


• Analytical / critical / “outside-the-box” thinking in problem solving, especially in possible critical, high‑pressure situations.
