Job summary

Morgan Stanley is seeking an Analyst for its Legal and Compliance division in Mumbai. The role supports management of litigation, regulatory, and subpoena matters, including document review, research, and matter processing.

You will maintain matter records, manage intake workflows, and generate reports while ensuring governance and Firm controls. A qualified lawyer with 1–2 years PQE, strong English communication, and MS Office proficiency are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer with LLB; LLM is an added advantage.
  • 1–2 years post qualification experience in a legal/compliance setting.
  • Experience in litigation or regulatory matters is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage intake and lifecycle tracking of litigation, regulatory, and subpoena matters in the matter system.
  • Review legal documents, perform research, and support matter processing across Firm systems.
  • Create and maintain matter records from receipt to resolution.
  • Monitor intake mailboxes and ensure timely distribution of matters and requests.
  • Generate reports, MIS, reconciliations, and regulatory filings with compliance controls.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, intake groups, and stakeholders to support operations and process improvement.

Job description

We're seeking someone to join our team as an Analyst in the Legal and Compliance division.
In the Legal & Compliance division, we assist the Firm in achieving its business objectives by facilitating and overseeing the Firm's management of legal, regulatory, and franchise risk. This is an Analyst level position within the Attorney - Litigation for LCD GC - Mumbai (LCD GC) which is a part of Morgan Stanley's Global In-house Center, which provides global support to LCD and is an integral part of Firm and LCD strategy.

What you'll do in the role:
  • Manage intake and lifecycle tracking of litigation, regulatory, and subpoena matters within the Firm's matter management system
  • Review legal documents, conduct research, and perform searches across Firm systems to support matter processing
  • Create, maintain, and update matter records from receipt through resolution
  • Monitor and manage intake mailboxes, ensuring timely review, assignment, and distribution of incoming matters and requests
  • Generate reports, MIS, reconciliations, and regulatory filings while ensuring compliance with Firm controls, risk, and governance requirements
  • Partner with attorneys, paralegals, other intake groups, and key stakeholders to support daily operations, projects, and process improvement
What you'll bring to the role:
  • Qualified lawyer LLB (LLM will be an added advantage)
  • 1-2 years post qualification experience
  • Solid track record working in a professional environment
  • Familiarity with identifying legal documents and separating them from other correspondence
  • Basic understanding and exposure of US Law and terminologies will be preferred
  • Should exhibit comfort working with technology and the ability to learn and display proficiency on Firm's systems and programs
  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel proficiency is required - specific focus on excel macros)
  • Understanding of legal documents and terminologies
  • Knowledge of document automation, contract analysis, Legal Tech software, and the application of AI tools is an advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills - ability to effectively correspond with various groups and senior professionals over email and the telephone
  • Pragmatic and analytical problem solving skills - candidate needs to consistently apply sound judgment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively manage a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in stakeholder management with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across regions and Business Units
  • Team player who can successfully manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Ability to think independently, form opinions and make decisions

  • Ability to identify and recommend process efficiencies

Coverage

Monday to Friday from 11:30 AM to 8:30 PM India time
Coverage is dependent on business needs, so flexibility is expected
Full day's coverage may be required during some Indian holidays
