Rockwell Automation is seeking a Shift In Charge to lead sheet metal fabrication shop floor operations in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu. You will manage a 30–60+ workforce, oversee CNC punching, and collaborate with planning, quality and maintenance teams to meet targets.

The role requires a BE/BTech in Mechanical Engineering with 5–8 years of experience in fabrication, and hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP) and Lean practices. On-site position with safety and process ownership.

Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• 5–8 years of experience in sheet metal fabrication/manufacturing.
• Expertise in workforce handling and shift operations management.
• Knowledge of production planning, shop floor execution and ERP systems (SAP).

Responsibilities

• Lead shop floor operations to meet daily production targets.
• Manage shift workforce including operators and technicians.
• Oversee CNC punching operations and programming improvements.
• Ensure adherence to process parameters and safety standards.

Job Description

As a Shift In Charge, you will lead shop floor operations for sheet metal fabrication, ensuring you meet production targets, quality standards, and safety practices. You will manage a team of operators and technicians, oversee CNC punching operations, and improve programmes. You will report to Production Supervisor and will work onsite in Kancheepuram. You will collaborate with planning, quality, and maintenance teams.

Your Responsibilities

Production Management

• Manage shift-wise production activities to achieve daily targets.
• Ensure optimum use of workforce, machines, and materials.
• Coordinate with planning team for production scheduling and execution.

Manpower Handling & Team Management

• Manage shift workforce (operators, helpers, technicians).
• Allocate workforce based on production requirements, skill matrix, and priorities.
• Monitor operator performance, discipline, attendance, and productivity.
• Conduct shift briefings, tool box talks, and daily review meetings.
• Train operators on machine operation, quality requirements, and safety standards.
• Handle conflicts, absenteeism, and workforce challenges to ensure smooth operations.
• Maintain skill matrix and multi-skilling programmes.

Technical Operations

• Operate and manage CNC punching machines (Amada & Prima).
• Ensure machine setup, tooling, and preventive maintenance.
• Troubleshoot machine and process issues to minimise downtime.
• Ensure adherence to process parameters and drawings.

Sheet Metal Fabrication Expertise

• In-depth knowledge of: CNC punching Bending operations Nesting and material use Sheet thickness and tooling selection
• Ensure fabrication following technical and quality specifications.

Quality Assurance

• Ensure products meet quality standards and customer requirements.
• Coordinate with QA team for inspection and rejection control.
• Guide root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Lean Manufacturing & 5S

• Implement and sustain 5S across the shop floor.
• Improve Lean manufacturing practices: Waste elimination Kaizen Productivity improvement
• Monitor and improve cycle time and efficiency.

Safety & Compliance

• Enforce safety practices, PPE usage, and compliance standards.
• Ensure safe working environment and report unsafe conditions.
• Conduct safety awareness sessions for team members.

The Essentials - You Will Have

• B.E / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
• 5–8 years of experience in sheet metal fabrication / manufacturing environment
• Expertise in workforce handling and shift operations management
• Knowledge of production planning coordination and shopfloor execution

The Preferred - You Might Also Have

• Well versed in sheet metal / fabrication / automotive industry
• Well versed with bending operations, nesting, tooling selection, and sheet thickness optimization
• You have to manage large shopfloor teams (30–60+ workforce)
• Exposure to ERP systems (SAP)
• Expertise in Lean Manufacturing, 5S implementation, Kaizen and productivity improvement programmes
• Reduce downtime, improve machine use, and control rejection/rework
