Job summary
Caterpillar Inc. seeks a senior technology leader to consult on client requirements, lead design and deployment of digital manufacturing and MES initiatives, and guide AI projects in a manufacturing setting. You will influence senior stakeholders, collaborate across global teams, and ensure adherence to Caterpillar standards.
Required: advanced technical leadership, SAP ERP mastery, and manufacturing domain knowledge; English fluency and a track record of delivering complex technology programs.
Qualifications
- Substantial experience in senior technical leadership roles (solution/enterprise architect, principal engineer, or similar).
- Experience delivering technology in manufacturing with production, quality, maintenance, and supply chain context.
- Deep hands-on experience with SAP ERP in manufacturing and knowledge of Oracle platforms.
- Experience delivering digital manufacturing, industrial IoT or MES capabilities; real-world AI/analytics production use cases.
- Evidence of influencing senior stakeholders without direct reports.
- Fluent English; ability to collaborate with globally distributed teams.

- Consult on client requirements and propose technology solutions and business cases; guide in evaluating, selecting and utilizing new and existing tools and techniques.
- Provide SME and solution guidance on complex technology issues for internal and external customers.

Consults and leads projects for a wide range of technology related issues to internal and external customers, while adhering to standards and processes.
- Substantial experience in senior technical leadership roles such as solution architect, enterprise architect, principal engineer or management consultant, with a track record of shaping direction rather than only executing it.
- Demonstrated experience delivering technology within a manufacturing environment, with a working understanding of production, quality, maintenance and supply chain processes.
- Deep hands-on experience with SAP ERP in a manufacturing context, and practical working knowledge of Oracle platforms.
- Experience delivering digital manufacturing, industrial IoT or MES capability, and experience taking at least one AI or advanced analytics use case into production.
- Evidence of influencing senior stakeholders and driving organisational change without direct reporting authority over them.
- Fluent written and spoken English, and the ability to work effectively with globally distributed teams across time zones.
Experience in a global matrixed organisation where the technology function reports centrally rather than to the site.
- Consult on client requirements and propose technology solutions and business cases; guide in evaluating, selecting and utilizing new and existing tools and techniques.
- Provide subject matter expertise and solutions on comprehensive technology issues for internal and external customers.
- Lead the design, testing and technology implementation of technical projects, while collaborating with senior IT staff.
- Ensure that the design and implementation of technologies are compliance with existing standards and processes.
- Required: Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, information systems or a related discipline.
- Preferred: Master's degree in engineering, computer science or business administration.

- Collaborates with an extended professional technology network to help clients effectively identify, plan for and accomplish technology objectives.
- Supervises others in advising a range of clients across a myriad of products, technologies, services and solutions in a relevant technology domain.
- Identifies and evaluates emerging technologies and advises clients regarding their potential business impacts.
- Effectively consults with and conveys technology concepts, business impacts and other advice to senior client levels.
- Trains others in developing technology business, channel management and client coaching.
- Leverages formal certifications in mastery of multiple areas of technology in demonstrating credibility for client consulting.
- Assists in comparing business performance before and after the implementation of new information technologies.
- Participates in the integration of new information technologies with an organization's existing system.

- Coordinates the design, application and evaluation process for new information technologies.

- Leads in the design of IT hardware to meet organizational needs.

- Elaborates on key issues and solutions during the hardware design, implementation and integration process.
- Improves the functionality of an organization's IT hardware.
- Monitors new IT hardware technologies provided by vendors.
- Plays an active or leading role in recording and storing requirement documents in various forms.
- Ensures the successful completion of all major activities, tasks and deliverables pertaining to the requirement analysis stage.
- Supervises the advanced use of requirements analysis tools and services, including prototyping and use cases.
- Produces detailed functional and information requirements models and documentation.
- Trains others on requirements walkthroughs and quality reviews.
- Utilizes automated diagramming tools to ensure traceability of requirements.
- Designs and implements software infrastructure and core technologies.
- Develops software architecture and data management policies and procedures.
- Resolves issues regarding the implementation of heterogeneous open systems.
- Evaluates the management of software configuration facilities and practices.
- Coaches on the essential elements of software architecture, platforms and products.
- Facilitates internal and external cooperative and distributed alignment and processing of systems software infrastructure.
- Emphasizes the business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution so that problems can be avoided in the future.
- Creates trouble reports for all issues found and reviews solutions for completeness and correctness.
- Directs the resolution of communications problems in multi-vendor environments.
- Resolves a variety of hardware, software, and communications malfunctions.
