Job Purpose

Responsible for development and implementation of systematic mine planning and value engineering in all operating mines of coal and bauxite and is responsible for resource and mine planning for all mineral resources / mines of Hindalco (Bauxite and coal). Job holder is also responsible for technical services in new projects in coal, bauxite, and copper.

Mining & Minerals Vertical in Hindalco is responsible for sourcing, securing, and administering natural resources in India & abroad for Hindalco, including development and operations of the coal mines and bauxite mines, strategic sourcing of coal, its operational navigation and cost optimization. In this vertical combination of 2 operating coal mines & 3 green field coal projects and 22 operational and few non-operational bauxite mines, 2 green field bauxite projects and 1 green field copper project are there in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Maharashtra state.

The purpose of the Technical and planning vertical in HMG is to develop comprehensive plans for the extraction of minerals from deposits, ensuring optimal utilization of resources while adhering to safety and environmental standards. The vertical plays a crucial role in designing efficient mining sequences, determining excavation methods, and establishing production schedules to maximize productivity and profitability, along with, collaboration with geologists, engineers, and operational teams to integrate geological data, technical specifications, and logistical considerations into strategic plans for the sustainable and responsible extraction of mineral resources. The vertical is also responsible for new acquisitions for sustainable business development, technical services and project planning for all the green field projects, preparation of detailed project report, exploration plan and MDO selection.

The Job holder is responsible for leading the development and implementation of systematic mine planning in all operating mines of Hindalco and mining technical services to all ongoing green field mining projects.

KRA1 Exploration, Resources Development

• Plan, budget and prepare exploration scheme in a scientific and cost-effective manner for all the Metal and Coal Mines. Co-ordinate, liaison, and select exploration agency to carry out exploration activities with best cost and latest technology option.
• Ensure that all the exploration database is prepared, validated, and standardized.
• Oversee resource model preparation of all the existing and new leases.
• Resources and Reserve declaration for all the leases of mining vertical.

KRA2 Mine Planning

• Facilitate the production of optimized mine plans that align with plant requirements.
• Ensure mine scheduling activities align with longer-term plans.
• Proactively forecast resource requirements for short-term and medium-term plans.
• Monitor and ensure the regular update of the mine model using operational and survey data.
• Take responsibility for supporting the Mine Operation Head and Mine Planning Heads in safely achieving targeted outcomes and delivering the Mine Business Plan.

KRA3 Continuous improvement and value addition in the business vertical

• Oversee formulation of medium and long-term mine designs, aiming for optimal returns, enhanced recovery, and prolonged mining life.
• Recognize opportunities for continuous improvement within mine operations, taking decisive actions to enhance production, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
• Guarantee the maximization of resources and reserves, emphasizing improved operational performance and augmentation without compromising mineral quality.
• Monitor and uphold robust KPIs, covering both departmental and contractual operational benchmarks, to ensure the mine's efficiency.
• Collaborate with the central and unit commercial teams to establish the technical scope of work for MDO selection.

KRA4 Green Field Project Technical Services

• Responsible for preparation of detailed project report.
• Formulating exploration plan for all the green field projects.
• Establish technical scope of work for the MDO selection.
• Provide technical services in all the mine opening activities.

KRA5 Technical Project Management and Monitoring

• Lead the formulation of CAPEX and OPEX plans for beneficiation, technical, and digital projects.
• Oversee the creation of detailed project management plans for all identified projects.
• Direct the identification of vendors, development of comprehensive scope of work, conduct techno-commercial evaluations, vendor selection, and successful implementation of all identified projects.
• Oversee and monitor all ongoing technical projects within the mining vertical.

KRA6 Technical competency enhancement

• Implementation of mine planning software like Datamine Studio RM, Studio OP, Minescape, Minex, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Agisoft Metashape etc. across Mining Vertical.
• Strategize technical training initiatives for mining engineers, geologists, and surveyors in collaboration with Hindalco Technical University.
• Enhance the capabilities of on-site key technical personnel (engineers, geologists, and surveyors) through targeted training and capacity-building programs.
