Job summary

AECOM is seeking a highly experienced Lead Structural Designer with 20+ years in hydropower and pumped storage projects. You will prepare and review detailed structural drawings and 3D models, coordinating with civil, geotechnical, hydraulic, and electrical teams to ensure compliance with project specifications and international standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (B.E./B.Tech).
• Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
• Familiarity with structural analysis outputs from software such as STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, MIDAS Civil, or similar.
• Knowledge of reinforcement detailing and structural steel detailing.
• Experience with BIM workflows and clash detection.
• Understanding of engineering document management systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review detailed structural design drawings and construction drawings for hydropower and pumped storage projects.
• Prepare structural layouts, reinforcement detailing, steel detailing, and GA drawings for dams, intake structures, spillways and powerhouses.
• Coordinate with Civil, Structural, Geotechnical, Hydraulic, Mechanical, Electrical, and Geological engineering teams.
• Ensure drawings align with calculations, design reports, specifications and standards.
• Review vendor drawings and integrate equipment interfaces into layouts.
• Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews, model reviews, constructability reviews and value engineering.
• Provide guidance to junior designers and drafting personnel.
• Support site teams by resolving drawing queries and issuing revisions during construction.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants and contractors during engineering and execution phases.
• Ensure timely delivery of engineering deliverables with high quality.

Lead Structural Designer - Hydropower & Pumped Storage Projects

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Structural Designer with over 20 years of expertise in the structural design and detailing of Hydropower and Pumped Storage Projects. The candidate will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and coordinating structural drawings and 3D models for complex hydroelectric infrastructure, ensuring compliance with project specifications, international standards, and client requirements.

The ideal candidate should possess extensive experience in multidisciplinary coordination and have worked on large-scale underground and surface hydroelectric facilities from concept through detailed engineering and construction support.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and review detailed structural design drawings and construction drawings for hydropower and pumped storage projects.
• Prepare structural layouts, reinforcement detailing, steel detailing, and General Arrangement (GA) drawings for:
  • Dams (Concrete Gravity, RCC, and Earth/Rockfill)
  • Intake structures
  • Spillways
  • Powerhouses (Surface and Underground)
  • Transformer caverns
  • Surge shafts and surge chambers
  • Pressure shafts and penstocks
  • Tailrace tunnels and outlet structures
  • Cable tunnels and utility galleries
• Coordinate closely with Civil, Structural, Geotechnical, Hydraulic, Mechanical, Electrical, and Geological engineering teams.
• Ensure structural drawings are aligned with engineering calculations, design reports, specifications, and applicable standards.
• Review vendor drawings and integrate equipment interface requirements into structural layouts.
• Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews, model reviews, constructability reviews, and value engineering exercises.
• Ensure compliance with project quality procedures, drawing standards, and document control requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior structural designers and drafting personnel.
• Support site engineering teams by resolving drawing-related queries and issuing revisions during construction.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, and contractors during engineering and execution phases.
• Ensure timely delivery of engineering deliverables while maintaining high quality standards.
