Job summary

Mastercard in Pune is hiring a Software Engineer to join our engineering organization supporting UK Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) payment products. This role operates in a globally distributed delivery model with onshore teams to deliver high-availability, mission-critical systems.

You will contribute to the ongoing evolution and stability of key payment platforms within a scaled Agile (SAFe) environment, delivering secure, reliable software across multi-technology stacks.

Qualifications

• Proven Java backend development experience with Spring Boot.
• Experience with SAFe Agile environment.
• Frontend knowledge with Angular/JS.
• Strong SQL and Oracle DB familiarity.
• REST, messaging, and event-driven architectures experience.

Overview

This role operates within a globally distributed delivery model, partnering closely with established onshore teams to deliver and maintain high-availability, mission-critical systems.

The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing evolution and stability of key payment platforms within a scaled Agile (SAFe) environment.

Role

The Software Engineer Will Be Responsible For

• Agile Delivery (SAFe Framework)

Working within an established Scrum team aligned to SAFe, contributing to sprint planning, execution, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Distributed Team Collaboration

Collaborating closely with onshore engineering teams to deliver features, resolve defects, and ensure seamless integration across the delivery lifecycle.

• Application Development & Maintenance

Designing, developing, and maintaining solutions across a multi-technology stack.

• Production Support & Reliability

Supporting critical live systems, ensuring performance, resilience, and adherence to enterprise standards and controls.

• Continuous Improvement

Contributing to engineering best practices, automation, and process enhancements to improve delivery efficiency and quality.

We are looking for a technically strong and collaborative Software Engineer who thrives in a complex, enterprise-scale environment.

Key Requirements Include

• Proven experience with Java-based backend development and relational databases (Oracle)
• Experience with Spring-Boot framework
• Knowledge of TDD and BDD testing frameworks
• Working knowledge of frontend technologies such as Angular and JavaScript
• Familiarity with SQL scripting and data handling
• Experience with REST, Messaging and Event Driven frameworks/solutions
• Exposure to Devops tooling
• Knowledge of security mechanisms
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments, ideally within SAFe
• Strong problem-solving skills and ownership mindset
• Ability to collaborate effectively across distributed teams

Desirable Experience

• Exposure to payment systems or financial services environments
• Experience supporting mission-critical, high-availability platforms
