Job summary

Spectrum in Mumbai is building a next-generation, high-performance market-data platform for real-time pricing and distribution to millions of users. You will design and develop Java applications for real-time processing, and build an Aeron-based low-latency distribution layer.

You will implement lock-free data structures, Netty-based networking, and observability with Prometheus/Grafana. Strong Java concurrency and Linux skills are required for high-throughput systems.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of strong Java development experience.
• Excellent understanding of Java concurrency and the Java Memory Model.
• Experience with high-throughput, low-latency applications.
• Strong Linux fundamentals and network knowledge (TCP/UDP).
• Experience with Netty or similar high-performance frameworks.
• Strong distributed-systems and system-design skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-performance Java applications for real-time market processing.

About the Role

We are building a next-generation, high-performance market-data platform for a large-

scale brokerage platform, capable of processing high-volume exchange market data

and distributing real-time prices to millions of users.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-performance Java applications for real-time market- processing.
• Build an Aeron-based ultra-low-latency market-data distribution layer.
• Develop the Interest Router responsible for routing instrument ticks to interested WebSocket nodes.
• Design lock-free/concurrent data structures for high-throughput subscription management.
• Build high-performance WebSocket infrastructure using Netty.
• Implement dynamic subscription/unsubscription, heartbeats, reconnection and recovery.
• Develop real-time 1-minute, 5-minute and 15-minute candle aggregation.
• Integrate Chronicle Queue or equivalent technologies for tick recording and replay.
• Design sequence-number-based recovery and gap detection mechanisms.
• Optimize JVM performance, memory allocation, GC and thread scheduling.
• Investigate and resolve latency, throughput and backpressure issues.
• Design highly available and horizontally scalable market-data components.
• Work closely with infrastructure teams on Linux, networking, CPU affinity, NUMA and high-performance NIC configuration.
• Build performance benchmarks and load tests for millions of subscriptions and high tick rates.
• Develop observability using Prometheus/Grafana/OpenTelemetry.

Mandatory Skills

• 6+ years of strong Java development experience.
• Excellent understanding of Java concurrency and the Java Memory Model.
• Strong knowledge of volatile, CAS, Atomic classes, VarHandle, locks, lock-free algorithms and concurrent data structures.
• Strong JVM knowledge including GC, JIT, memory allocation and profiling.
• Strong experience with high-throughput, low-latency applications.
• Strong Linux fundamentals.
• Good understanding of TCP, UDP, multicast, network buffers and backpressure.
• Experience with Netty or another high-performance networking framework.
• Strong distributed-systems and system-design skills.
• Experience designing systems that operate at high throughput with predictable latency.
