Job Role: Design Lead – Solar (SCADA & Telecom)
Reports to: Section Head - Solar
Reportees: Design Engineer, Draughts Person
Minimum Qualification: BE Electronics Instrumentation Engineering / ICE (Instrumentation and Control Engineering) or M. Tech. (Instrumentation or Automation)
Experience: 7–10 years (Must have experience in design aspects of Wind/Solar PV/BESS Power Plants / Power Distribution Projects)
Objective: As Design Lead (Instrumentation), the person shall review & execute engineering activities of instrumentation/automation of Solar PV Power Plants, facilitate modelers in development of BIM 3D models, coordinate with other departments, support iterative engineering steps from pre-bid to commissioning and warranty, and extend support to site teams.
Manage a team of Engineering designers and draughts persons, delivering within budget and schedule while maintaining high engineering quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Timely delivery of engineering drawings & documents.
- Ensure deliveries align with project schedule.
- Review drawings by Design Engineers & Draughts Persons; check design & sizing calculations; obtain approvals from the client.
- Review vendor deliverables.
- Manage multitasking and deliver multiple tasks on time.
- Estimate and plan man‑hour requirements.
- Review BOQ and submit to contracts team with technical clarifications.
- Coordinate with multiple disciplines for inter‑departmental checks.
- Provide support & clarifications to Site Execution team.
- Check pre‑award evaluation of vendors and forward validation to Supply Chain Management.
- Inspect equipment from vendors after validation submission.
- Clarify design & requirements issues with Site Execution Team.
- Collect inputs for project details from client & Project Engineering Manager.
- Coordinate with Operations team and inform design specifications for approval.
- Collect inputs for project details (General Arrangement Drawings) from vendors.
- Check deliverables such as Instrumentation and JB location layout, Control Room layout, F&G location layout, CCTV location layout, Earthing layout, Cable Tray routing layout, Access Control System layout, EPAX system layout.
- Provide support to Electrical AC/DC, Civil/Structural for reviewing vendor drawings.
- Submit man‑hour requirements for design & drawing review.
Technical Expertise
The Design Lead (SCADA/Telecom) should possess overall knowledge of Wind/Solar/BESS plant design of control and monitoring systems, including equipment layouts and calculations. Expertise in PLC/SCADA, cyber security, wind turbine generator control interface, power plant controller, integration with national grid, met station system, cable selections, telecom system, CCTV, ACS, system integration, third‑party equipment integration, communication protocols, and tracker control systems. Knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment is also required. Must be familiar with national and international codes and standards.
