Job summary

Virtusa seeks a Lead/Principal AI Technical Architect to design the technical blueprint for core platforms, with a heavy focus on scaling AI, Generative AI, and autonomous AI agents across high-volume data systems safely, securely, and cost-effectively. You will design architectures, build AI strategy including RAG, and set standards for security, data governance, and Responsible AI.

You will mentor teams and translate complex ideas for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering or technical architecture for distributed systems.

Role Overview

You will serve as a Lead/Principal AI Technical Architect at Virtusa. Your primary mission is to design the technical blueprint for core platforms, with a heavy focus on scaling AI, Generative AI, and autonomous AI agents across high-volume data systems safely, securely, and cost-effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Design Technical Architecture: Create high-level technical blueprints, component standards, and integration patterns for Virtusa's platforms to guide engineering teams.
• Build the AI Strategy: Architect how AI, Generative AI, and multi-agent systems are builtincluding RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), agent workflows, memory systems, and human-in-the-loop safety.
• Establish Standards & Safety: Define technical guidelines for security, privacy, data governance, and Responsible AI (guardrails, cost tracking, access control, and auditing).
• Evaluate & Innovate: Run Proofs of Concept (PoCs) to test new technologies (e.g., vector databases, LLM models, frameworks) and guide "build vs. buy" decisions.
• Lead & Mentor: Provide technical leadership, conduct design reviews, and ensure consistent, high-quality engineering practices across development teams.

Core Qualifications

• Background: 8+ years in software engineering, application development, or technical architecture for distributed systems.
• Data Scale: Experience with enterprise-scale systems and multi-terabyte database environments (relational and non-relational).
• Cloud Expertise: Deep knowledge of cloud platforms—specifically Microsoft Azure (Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, security, networking).
• GenAI & Agent Systems: Hands-on experience with LLMs, vector search, RAG, prompt engineering, and agentic frameworks (e.g., Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, Model Context Protocol).
• Governance & Security: Experience with AI threat modeling, evaluation metrics (accuracy, latency, groundedness), and Responsible AI patterns.
• Communication: Ability to translate complex technical architectures into clear guidance for both technical engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders.
